Dan has been an active networker for years, putting honest work into building genuine friendships with authors across the gamut of success. Speaking just for myself - networking has been incredibly rewarding. If I'd had this book from the off, I think I'd have been rewarded even more. Essentially it's about being genuine, being generous with what you know, and being a decent human in interactions with other humans.
There's no hard sell in Dan's approach. There's no hard and fast rules on what a good network 'exchange' might be. Rather he shares his experiences of meeting people, making friends, and helping each other up the mountain together. Writing is solitary - but it doesn't need to be.
With the recent focus on mental health and the risks and pressures authors face, writers need each other more than ever. This book is a great key to the community, and a guide on stepping in with some measure of confidence, knowing Dan and a multitude of others have not only been there before you, but also are there right now, waiting to shake your hand and welcome you in.
