They were sure a battle was coming. They just didn’t know how bad it would be.
A new dawn has risen on Safe Haven, and it’s the darkest they’ve ever seen.
In a heartbeat, the world they have fought so hard to build has been torn apart. Now all that remains is to see if it can be pieced back together.
For some, it’s too late. For the rest, there’s only one option. It’s a fight to the death. Kill or be killed.
Today, fate takes no prisoners. Today is the end of their new beginning. But is it the beginning of the end?

I laughed and loved the first 6 chapters, it was so fun to celebrate Christmas with the gang.
Of course, everyone wants Safe Haven, by chapter 7 the anxiety started, chapter 8 the amount of action was insane as the assault from Olsen and her cult began...
Brutal agony and tears and heavy breathing were a few of the items employed for comfort and sanity as I had to set the book down for a bit to grieve along with the characters.
I don't know if the following is a spoiler or not.
True to form Mike risks his life to lead a hoard away from his family, in the process he finds Wolf and Mya Hamlyn!!! I was stoked to see survivors from Doomsday again.
Bravo Chris for another astoundingly well rounded book!
I cannot wait for EoE 10 - something tells me that's going to be another best seller too!
Maybe some plot spoilers.
It's been a few days now since Wren and Robyn had come back to Safe Haven, with Mila in tow. Mike and company have been made aware of the impending attack by a massive army headed up by the former Chancellor Olsen, once the leader of the ultra-right-wing True Brit party, now a stony-hearted warlord. The ambitious Olsen's invasion had already encompassed the entire coastline from North Berwick 'round to Ullapool and beyond. Safe Haven has ramped up its security measures, but one can stay at a heightened state of alertness only for so long. No sign of an attack yet. Christmas is here. Cue several moving moments as our cast exchange meaningful or just super-fun presents.
But, yes, much of the book hones in on the invasion as Safe Haven is outnumbered yet again against overwhelming forces. And, fair warning, not everyone makes it out alive. There are significant losses.
It's more opportunity for Mike to present his savage side. Mike embodies the adage of "Sometimes, the best defense is a good offense." Thinking things through is not Mike's forte. Homeboy just wildly charges ahead and commences to taking out fools and zombies. My jaw dropped at the scene in which we're shown how Mike escapes captivity and goes on to procure makeshift weapons for his teammates. Savage. That entire sequence also features my favorite Robyn quote as she observes Mike stove in a dead man's rib cage with his boot: "Err... I don't think that's how you do CPR."
Speaking of Robyn, I was a wee bit disappointed at how she was presented. In The End of Everything books, we've watched Robyn morph from a frightened, useless party girl to a boss fighter in the apocalypse to a steely-eyed leader of men and women. In the most recent End of Everything installment, it was Robyn who was, more or less, calling the shots.
In a way, Robyn reminds me of a co-worker, let's call him Jose. Jose was excellent at his job. Whenever he was the most senior of the staff working on a day, he would take charge and be great. But whenever he found himself working with people higher-ranked than him, he would lose focus, ease back, and just take it easy. I'm not saying Robyn loses focus in this book. She does take a back seat, which makes sense, given that Mike is the headliner of the Safe Haven series. In this book, we see Robyn kick less ass and do more snacking, drinking, and belching, although I feel she never stopped doing the last activity. Anyway, I wanted Robyn to be more assertive and badass, and she wasn't either of that as much as I wanted her to be, is all I'm saying. Still, she does manage to draw an "Impressive" comment from Mike during one zombie skirmish. If you couldn't tell, she's my favorite character in Artinian's shared universe.
I just cracked open this author's Burning Tree series, and I'm enjoying it, as well. Christopher Artinian has been steady climbing up the ranks of my favorite writers. It's gotten so that I've begun automatically pre-ordering his stuff. He writes strong emotional moments and action beats with equal dexterity. He draws you into his characters. And he doesn't cheat on the stakes, especially with the Safe Haven series. People you care about will die.
I wasn't sure what to think of Mike and a small batch of other primary characters embarking on a side quest to the Isle of Skye whilst Shaw, Barnes, Raj and others are left behind to repel the next attack on Safe Haven. But I get it that Mike's mission may turn the tide if he could pull it off. At the end of the book, we do get introduced to a new community of survivors, so I guess it worked out? Somewhen in those pages, we and Mike's party run into Kara Zor El, as if this shared universe didn't already have its share of badass women. Heck, even young Sammy gets in on the action. As always, I look forward to the next volume either in the Safe Haven or the End of Everything series. And Robyn rocks.
Altogether a terrific read.

lulls you into a false sense of security and then wham, it's like being hit by a lump hammer!!
The ability to generate so many emotions in one book just completely blows me away!!
It is an extremely rare book that moves me to tears, well this is an extremely rare book. I wept and then I wept some more!! This left me with one question, Christopher Artinian, how could you!!!
The genius of Christopher Artinian and his ability to draw the reader into the events of the story never fails to amaze me. We care so deeply about his characters that we live every high, every low and every trauma with them.
I really can't wait to read the next chapter in the lives of the residents of Safe Haven in the certain knowledge that I have much to look forward to. As I have said many times in the past, to read a Chris Artinian book is to read an example of an author who is truly a master of his craft.

This author writes the most incredible stories that you just can't put down.
I found him through reading The burning tree series which is absolutely mindblowingly good. (So good I bought the audio books & they just took the series to a whole new level & a very magical listening experience) I then started reading Safe Haven & The end of everything. They're all full of absolutely amazing characters that you love or loathe hold on tight it's a never ending roller-coaster ride. Once I finish all the books I will get the audiobooks.

My reading is usually at night before I nod off. This book just would not wait, and followed me around so that at every opportunity I had to read more of it!
This is a fantastic series set in the apocalyptic world that will keep you guessing and reading (avidly!) until the next one is released.
If you haven't started this, or any of Christopher Artinian's other series' then don't miss out!

Written a superbly fast paced book and I'm only sorry that I've now finished reading it. As upsetting as one particular death was (no spoilers here!) I had a feeling that this would happen eventually to pave the way for another character......hopefully future books will reveal all!
