Another strong medical drama
Verified purchase
When I first heard this show was coming out, I was a bit dubious. Exactly HOW many medical dramas are the Powers That Be thinking the public wants to watch? I already watch Chicago Med and The Resident, for heaven's sake!

Still, I decided to give it a try. While some of the characters seem a bit familiar (except for being gay, New Amsterdam's psychiatrist Iggy Frome is literally a carbon copy of Chicago Med's Dr. Charles) I still greatly enjoy the strong acting and ripped-from-the-headlines stories. Like Chicago Med, New Amsterdam likes to focus on the current hot button issues, such as healthcare for undocumented immigrants, hospitals putting cost over care, etc.

Unlike other medical dramas, however, this one has a main character fighting his own medical crisis - based on the real-life doctor whose memoir inspired this show.

I enjoyed the show

I liked the characters as well as the actors that play them. While there was nothing particularly new or amazing I appreciated that everyone wasn't sleeping with everyone else and the staff seemed to get along most of the time. It's a show I can watch where I want to root for the people represented.

Best Medical Show on TV today
Verified purchase
Excellent show. Puts every other medical drama on TV today to shame. Excellent cast, well written, has humor, heart, and the right amount of drama. Hopefully New Amsterdam stays true to itself and doesn't get morphed into another Grey's Anatomy or Chicago Med. Hopefully they don't go heavy into melodrama and audience manipulating sappy stuff like The Good Doctor (usually the only watchable parts of TGD are the Shaun scenes). This show is something special, after one season I feel like I've been watching Max, Helen, Iggy, Reynolds, and Kapoor for so much longer. They're very well developed and a delight to watch. I hope the show sticks around for a long time.

Great and fun to watch

Ok. this is not Code black, the good doctor, or the Resident. Yes. Having a hospital like this, a medical director and a support system like that is a fantasy. But wouldn't it be nice if there is such? I mean, don't you want all doctors care about the patients first? isn't that what doctors are supposed to do, or they started that way, but became worn out due to red tape of insurances, and other mishaps.

So its nice to see a person who wants to do good. And its entertaining and refreshing to see how one go outside the box, and change the way it works. I like this show, because its entertaining and makes people feel good and hopeful.

Of course, there are great serious and intense medical dramas, and I like them too, but them being great, does not make this less excellent.

Hollywood pushing their propaganda AGAIN!!!
Verified purchase
I started out kind of liking this show even though it was somewhat ridiculous with the firing of half the staff, but I kept watching because I like the lead character. However, by the 5 episodes I could not take it anymore. There goes Hollywood again pushing their political propaganda on all of us again as they imply that all police are bad and racist, and are out to kill anyone who is black. What a bunch of BS. In my opinion, it seems that Hollywood is not only the pusher of racism, but also the reason for the increase in bigotry and racism that seems to be sweeping our county today.

Have Kleenex at the ready but don’t let that steer you away. It’s reality TV that gets a lot of wiggle room for (many) inaccuracies we all would like to believe in, and even if taken from ‘real life’ they’ve worked this for the benefit of viewers, but its heart IS in the right place. Must see TV is back… doing good things for a change. Exceptionally well written. Well cast, too. But the script touches on truths we all need to take care to listen to. Listen as well as watch.

I love New Amsterdam. It shows what a Hospital SHOULD be like. Great idea. Maybe if we’re lucky Art will rub off onto realty.

Hope in the World

If you're someone who believes in the ability to create change in the world, then you'll enjoy this series. I was impressed with the empathy, diversity of stories, the inclusion of all people. I truly believe in a world where people care more about people than greed/profit, and to see it portrayed was uplifting and motivating. More shows like this.
