How can you not love this show?! Maybe it's because I'm the same age as the characters, but everything out of their mouths and every situation they find themselves in I'm just like "YES, I GET IT." Been such a fun journey watching these people grow throughout the years. But let's just focus on buying the Season 1 DVD.

Simply: I purchased this to share with my mom (before streaming services made buying seasons to things obsolete) because I didn't feel like many people were on the New Girl train when it first came out and I needed more people to share these quotes with. I still have it, I probably won't get rid of it, though I'm not sure when I might watch it again. Still: I'm wearing my lap dance pants! No, wait...Sum up the last two years? The country's broke. Betty White came back.

Or something ;)

I am (pleasantly) surprised that 'New Girl' managed to survive for 7 seasons. While it does show a few sitcom cliches once and a while, for the most part this is a show from a different planet. Although a bit crass at times, the best parts of 'New Girl' tend to shine through in every episode: irreverent humor, good cast chemistry, a touching emotional undercurrent, and a heck of a lot of fun. Great cast, too, led by Zooey Deschanel and Jake Johnson. It's awesome that the studio has made DVD sets available for all 7 seasons. Get 'em all and binge watch 'til your head hurts!

New Girl is a show that I'm very fond of. I love the characters and the writing. The fights between anyone and Schmidt always have me laughing hysterically. It's first and foremost a fun show. They don't really tackle any deep issues here but there's an interesting bent to it. They hide darker themes in it like mortality and the fact that all of them are just treading water. They're having fun doing it and they're not ready to get out of the pool yet but the idea that they are all, in some way losers, know it, and are someday going to have to move beyond that is present in every episode.
If you're a fan of shows like Friends and Scrubs or even Happy Endings and Don't Trust the B in Apt 23, you'll have a good time with New Girl. You'll get used to and even come to love that idiot Schmidt (trust me. I never thought I'd get used to him let alone that he'd become my favorite character). Nick's faces are always a topic of conversation in our house and Winston's absurdity gets more apparent as the series goes on. These are great characters that you see develop over time and you come to know and love them.

The DVD-- okay... If this is your first time watching the show, you'll probably be fine, but if, like me, you've watched it since day one and have been waiting not-so-patiently for this thing to come out you're going to be disappointed.

-The blurb on the back of the box is almost an insult to the show and makes it sound like so much garbage. I don't know how the copy is supposed to entice anyone to watch this show. I don't like knowing its there, not paying justice to such a fun show.

-3 commentaries. 3. That's it. If you had ideas of watching the entire season with some companionable chit-chat going on for 24 episodes you can just get rid of them now.

- There are a few short specials in which they talk about clothing/style and the evolution of an episode, a gag reel, deleted and extended scenes, alternate jokes, Winston's audition, and a sneak peek at Ben and Kate.
That sounds like a lot until you take into consideration that they only did 3 commentaries for this thing. They didn't include such interesting things as a photo gallery of the roommate applications (these are on the website and are pretty funny) and they did not include the music video of the opening theme song. That seems paltry, I know, but the music video is interactive and there are tons of different versions of it. It would have been nice to have them all in one place. There are many many little interviews online including the origin of the douchebag jar and the True American drinking game. Some of them may have come out after the dvd was done but these are things that could have been asked for interviews for the dvd or they may have come out naturally on the 21 commentaries they didn't do. I can only hope that they'll be included on the season 2 dvd but I think they are banking on people buying them from amazon.
If I sound bitter, I am... I've waited a while for this dvd and there's nothing on it that is worth waiting for if, like me, you wanted extras.

I find it hard to believe now, but before New Girl premiered I really disliked Zooey Dechanel. I wouldn't watch anything with her in it and when my hubby said he wanted to give New Girl a try, I was filled with dread at the idea. Being supportive I gave in to watch it and I'm so glad I did. I was so drawn in by her character that by the end of the episode I was sold. Not too many shows have ever won me over from day one. I just love the cast so much, especially Nick, that I had to see what else would happen to them. I find it very ironic that by the middle of season two I have found Nick and Jess to be my all time favorite couple on tv or in a movie. I love the entire cast and care about all of them, which is not something that has happened to me before. I just hope now that Fox doesn't do something stupid and get rid of it. I barrel laugh often while watching New Girl and I look forward to seeing it each week. While it may not be for everyone(their loss)If you haven't seen it yet, I suggest you pick up season one and give it a try. I'm sure glad I did.

I've enjoyed some of the other movies that Zooey has been in, so was interested in this show when it first came out. I must say, I almost gave up on it after the first 1-2 episodes, as it was just a bit too cutesy for me. However, I'm very glad I stuck through it, because after 3-4 episodes I was completely hooked! I don't know if the main character got toned down a little or if I just got used to her, but that combined with the excellent supporting characters makes me look forward to every episode. This is definitely one of my top three sitcoms of all time now, and I rarely get through an episode without laughing out loud several times. Highly recommended.

After a slow and not funny start, the series gains momentum and becomes one of the best curreNt comedies. Indeed, after changing a roommate after the initial episode, the series had an uneasy start with its humor feeling forced. What was obvious is that they were not able to capitalize frm the start on what would become the strength of the series: the irritating cute charm of the star theyy had in deschanel. Indeed the first episodes ( and I mean all of the first DVD) are unfunny and forced and make you want to cringe. However on the second DVD suddenly everything changes, basically the writing is much improved and this becomes one of the best series around overall.

I love this show. It is like a cross breed between Friends and Big Bang. Always funny, always a nice pick me up moment in each episode. If you haven't watched it yet then you are missing out!
Digital download lets me take it anywhere and it's great to watch on plane (although people may stare at you when you are laughing to yourself)

You won't be disappointed!

I don't generally like sit-coms, but I adore this show. It's endearing - that's the best way to put it. I just love all the characters - they are all super strong. Great actors, great timing. I laugh till it hurts and then I just want to give them all a big hug. I love their vulnerability and sensitivity. I think that most everyone can find a little (or a lot) that they can relate to - even if you are nothing like these people - just in the crap that life throws at you that they deal with. This is one of my "can't miss" shows and that says a lot - I don't watch too much tv on a regular basis.
