Your DSLR’s Best Friend
A must-have for standard portraits and everyday use, the AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G is a lens that will absolutely surprise you. The 50mm focal length (75mm equivalent on DX format cameras) with a fast f/1.8 aperture allows you to capture stunning images with a shallow depth-of-field, letting your subjects stand out from their backgrounds. The AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G may soon become your new favorite lens.
Brilliance In Any Light Get Astonishing Low Light Results
This lightweight standard lens is a great travel companion because you never know when a beautiful, sunny day will turn cloudy and rainy. With its fast f/1.8 aperture, the AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G will capture even low-light situations with stunning brilliance.
Beautiful Background Blur Achieve More Natural Depth Of Field
Whether you're shooting portraits, food or nature—indoors or outdoors—the AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G renders a beautiful, natural background blur (Bokeh) at its wider aperture settings. And its 50mm focal length is perfect for creating natural perspective in your photographs.
Capture Every Detail Shoot Tack-Sharp Portraits Every Time
Nikon's Super Integrated Coating (SIC) enhances light transmission efficiency and offers superior color consistency and reduced flare, while the AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G's Aspherical Lens Element (AS) virtually eliminates coma and other types of aberrations, even when shooting at the widest available aperture. Pair that with Nikon's Silent Wave Motor (SWM) for fast, accurate and quiet autofocus, and you can be sure all of your portraits will be tack sharp.
Silent Wave Motor
AF-S NIKKOR lenses feature Nikon’s Silent Wave Motor (SWM). This technology converts 'traveling waves' into rotational energy to focus the optics. This enables high-speed autofocusing that's extremely accurate and super quiet.
Select NIKKOR lenses have a focusing mode which allows switching from automatic to manual focusing with virtually no lag time by simply turning the focusing ring on the lens. This makes it possible to seamlessly switch to fine manual focusing while looking through the viewfinder.
A lens with a curved, non-spherical surface. Used to reduce aberrations and enable a more compact lens size. Aspherical lenses minimize coma and other types of lens aberrations, even when used at the widest aperture. They are particularly useful in correcting distortion in wide-angle lenses and help contribute to a lighter, more compact design by reducing the number of standard (spherical) elements necessary. Aspherical lens elements correct these distortions by continuously changing the refractive index from the center of the lens.
Super Integrated Coating
Nikon Super Integrated Coating is Nikon's term for its multilayer coating of the optical elements in NIKKOR lenses.

I simply cannot say enough good things about this lens. While I will not insult your intelligence by making statements asserting that you will never take a poor shot with this lens, I do believe that use of this lens has greatly improved my photography, particularly while taking shots of my family. I find that this lens allows me to quickly make adjustments allowing for varying degrees of focus in my pictures, as I do like the look this gives my photos. I love the "softness" I am able to capture with this lens, and think that it makes my shots of my children look particularly good. In fact, this has become my "go to" lens for taking shots of my family, whether they be more formal posed photos or (my personal favorite) more candid shots. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS LENS!
This is effectively a 75mm lens for me - but without ANY edge artifacts due to it being an FX lens. This thing is super fast and sharp. A lot of the reviews here stated that the f/1.4 does not offer enough advantages to warrant the price and I do not regret this lens.
Incredible value for something that I can keep as I upgrade in the future.
The only down-point is that sometimes 50 mm is too close for some shots, even if you step back, sometimes you screw with your composition, but this only happens if you want to take a picture of a large subject or a landscape, which is not the purpose of this lens for me.
Top international reviews
Having had the 35mm f/1.8 DX lens for a while and being really pleased with that, I wanted that bit more focal length (knowing that it's equivalent to 75mm on my D3300), but didn't want to go as far as the 85mm (rather save for a decent 70-200mm)
When it was delivered, I immediately had to give it a quick try out...... resulting quick snaps in auto, aperture priority and shutter priority, as well as a few test shots in various preset modes were all absolutely stunning! Beautiful, crisp and sharp detail, perfect colours, smooth bokeh, no CA to be seen wide open or stopped down, absolutely no apparent vignetting throughout the aperture range either with or without the hood attached, fast and precise autofocus - what more could one ask from a lens?!
OK, so it's not "pro" quality but it feels and looks well built, handles nicely, isn't too heavy or at all bulky with smooth manual focus and superb low light results. I can see this lens pretty much staying on my camera for most occasions. Looking forward to a LOT of shooting with it - can't wait to use it "in anger"!!
Anyone who has "issues" with this lens must, quite simply, either not know what they're doing or have received a poor copy and really ought to just get it replaced/exchanged.
Personally, I don't think you'll find better glass for the money!!
Generally 50MM (used on FX modle) field of view is what your eye can see with some crop of 10meters.So choose wisely between 35mm and 50mm
I never consider myself to be a professional photographer to be honest, I just like taking a nice family photos.
After signing myself up for ClickLoveGrow enthusiast photographer course I was recommended to buy this lens, omg! the best money ever spent!
at first I went for basic 50 mm D series (but later on I have read the reviews saying it would not focus on my Nikon D3100) I have cancelled the order and added 50% more money to buy this one, I do not regret it!
If you are a beginner and are fed up of taking average pictures - buy this lens!
Images attached to my review are all taken in auto mode.
The thing you need to know is that it does not have zoom, so it's better for portraits I guess.
I just got it and I already love it!
My only regret is that nobody has told me about it earlier.
if you love nice pictures do not think twice! get it!
You won't get this kind of image quality in a zoom lens for under a grand. Obviously you are suck at 50mm here and that's why it's so cheap but it's unbeatable for portraits and street photography. The best lens I have ever bought without doubt.
This isn't a macro lens, telephoto or wideangle lens, it is just a plain, but modern, 50mm 'standard lens'. Performance is significantly better than the earlier Nikkor AFn or AFD 50mm lenses and almost all non-AF Nikkor 500m lenses. The principle improvements are in edge sharpness and chromatic abberations although these may not always be apparent.
The downside for some people will be the lack of a manual aperture ring, but otherwise it functions as might reasonably be expected.
Is it worth upgrading to the AFS from an AFD 50mm Nikkor? It depends on what the lens is used for. The key is to read the objective (professional) reviews available online. Don't expect it to be stunningly better than any earlier lens.
Af works perfectly on the camera and it's great for portraits (humans and animals) I've even used it to shoot down at my local CrossFit gym getting some fantastic shots.
A great purchase after the kit lens.
Was soll ich sagen?
The lens has a fairly low profile to it and very little weight compared to some of the bulkier lenses I use. This is by far the sharpest lens that I have in my collection and it is great in low light conditions. Superb price and a must have lens, you won't be disappointed.
It felt good quality and built to last and was a nice size when on the camera, the adjustment dial on the lens body was a nice feature also which isn't available on the 35mm version.
However, I found the fixed zoom level of 50mm didn't suit my camera of photography style in the end, I hadn't factored that as my camera (D7200) wasn't a full frame camera then this lens with crop factor is effectively more like having a 75mm lens, therefore was a little too much zoom for me for general use.
I exchanged it for the 35mm version which is slightly cheaper, but this works much better for my needs, using this one on my camera body I get roughly the 50mm I was looking for and the quality of the photos does not seem to have changed.
I can still get very good bokeh effects easily and it takes great photos in different scenarios and lighting, much better than my kit 18-140mm lens does in general, although this lacks the flexibility of the zoom level of the kit lens, so I think with these two lenses I don't need to carry too much and I get a great flexibility when needed.
Considering the price of some lenses, i think this is great value for money if it fits the style of photography you are looking for, just take into account the difference between using it on a full frame camera or APS-C type with the crop factor. (50mm vs ca.75mm)
Sharp, clear optics are what you'd expect from a quality prime lens and this excels in that department. It does mean, however, a little footwork so no lazy zooming to get what you want, walk in, get close and shoot! I would say this lens stays on my camera 90% of the time and rightly so, it's earned that place and I wouldn't be without it. If you need anymore convincing, my website was shot predominantly on this baby! [...]
