This movie has just the right amount of fun, adventure and suspense for an 8-12 year old. My daughter must have watched this movie twenty times. The story features a young girl that lives on an uncharted island with her dad - a marine biologist. I'm not going to give the plot away, but she is faced with numerous challenges - and threw creativity, courage and some adorable friendships, she is able to succeed in the end. A fun movie for the entire family!

Definitely one of Jodie Foster's best films ever. If she never makes another film, she should be remembered for this, a woman afraid of the reality of the world who nevertheless ventures forth to save an 11 year old girl who is injured and alone. Cameos by an unexpected hero. Deprived of every anchor, Jodie as the most unlikely hero, defeat thrown at her at every turn. (Caution: don't buy Return To Mom's Island, as disappointing a piece of trash as was ever made.)

Very good movie about a smart brave girl who has a favorite author and she calls on her for help. Jodie Foster plays the author and she has some problems to get over before she can come to rescue the brave girl. Only to find the danger is more imagined than real and the girl doesn't realize all that the author has to go through to come to her aid. This movie is also a good family film.

My son wanted to watch this because of the pet bearded dragon. He did not understand the alter ego and he is 5 years old. He also found parts kind of scary and in general got scared the dad would never come home again and die.

My granddaughter and I have watched this several times. A brave young girl on a (supposedly) deserted island. Her father is a scientist and they have made their own heaven on earth. She has a sea lion for a pet. Something happens and Nim finds herself alone. But not for long...adventure and laughter arrive when a ship of folks come inland. Enter an inhibited hermit author to save the day! Nim's Island has all the adventure and fun a kid could want to watch.

Forget the fact that the whole time I watch this all I can think is the timelines and how unlikely some of these occurrences would happen all so very quickly, its a cute movie. My daughter really seemed to like it when we rented it a few years ago. We found a great price for the dvd here on amazon when we were looking for some movies that gave us a feeling of spring/summer with the dull-ache of a never ending winter. Nim's cute relationship with the animals, and her know-how of navigating the island was a nice change to some of the wimpy girl movies my daughter used to watch. We love movies that show strong female roles.

YES to strong characters, adventure, independence, and age-appropriate content. My 4 year old loves the book and the movie didn’t disappoint.

For little girls. Who says we can’t do anything we need to. Resourceful competent little girl. Our little girl LOVED it. Big brother watched it too pretending he wasn’t.
