On Ember's first day on the job working for the handsome, but secretive, Gray Caldwell, she realizes two things. One, women flock to his veterinarian practice, The Menagerie, with or without sick pets. Two, women would flock to Heart's Edge's most eligible bachelor Doc Caldwell no matter where he was. All is going well until an unexpected client shows up. Doc is not pleased to see this women who is definitely from his past. A past no one knows about, needs to know about and, God willing, will never know about.
Besides intimidating Ember, Doc's heated glances, the touches that mean absolutely nothing to him but fluster Ember nonetheless, have her confused and second guessing her feelings as well as his. It's all part of the job working in close quarters with the the enigma known as Doc Caldwell. Much to Doc's disappointment, Ember has managed to break some of the ice that surrounds his heart. He never intended for that to happen, especially now when his past has come back to haunt him. Doc is not the man he portrays himself to be. Sure he cares about his clients and patients, but there's a darker side to him. One he must never reveal, especially if he intends to keep Ember safe. Years ago, Doc came back to Heart's Edge for one reason and one reason only and it wasn't to fall for his beautiful, caring assistant. That was never the plan. Now he must claim her to save her and keep her safe. Well, that's the lie he keeps telling himself. Heart's Edge is a small town with a lot of secrets. One of those secrets? Who is Dr. Gray Caldwell?
COMPLETELY ORIGINAL, TOTALLY CAPTIVATING STORYLINE THAT WILL HOOK YOU FROM THE START ! 🔥RAW TEMPTATION, INTENSE AND EXPLOSIVE🔥 This book is part of a series but reads as a standalone. But it's so much better when you get to meet the recurring characters and know their stories also.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK ! AMAZING READ ! ! !
What happens when dark and light? You get Dr. Grey Caldwell the stone-cold veterinarian of Hearts Edge.
Ogled over by most women in the tiny town, newly hired Vet tech Ember is not immune to his stature.
His gruff demeanor and shady, dangerous ire send up red flags with her, especially when she gets small hints of a softer side.
Accident-prone and too curious for her own good she stumbles upon a shocking, dangerous zone that only the grumbly Doc will be able to explain!
Yes please~ can I have some more? Oooh! Grey and the not so innocent Ember are the perfect duo for this intricate suspense building; heat fueled race towards justice, redemption, lust, love, and one helluva HEA!
Talk about a book I could not put down!
So much goes on, once I dropped down the rabbit hole, there was no coming out until I finished!
Fantastic suspense riddled military romance that deserves more than 5 stars!
1. If you're turned off by large age gaps in characters, this book is not for you. It takes forever to find out (they constantly mention it but never give the ages) that Grey is nearly 40 and Ember is I think 25? Although, she acts like she's roughly 12. Very naive, scared of her own shadow, immature.
2. Grey almost had me. But reading about his past constantly with no details was obnoxious. The mystery of his past kept dragging on and on and on. To the point I quit caring about what it was in his past that caused him to be so jaded.
3. Ember is a 25 year old virgin who has an orgasm from a kiss. I hope I'm not the only person who finds this bizarre? Once I got to the sex scene at roughly 60-65% of the book, I had to close the book and move on. Ember was just too much like a child to me. When the age factor was repeated over and over and you finally get to a sex scene where the "old guy" refers to the female as a "good girl," it makes you want to barf. He talks about her tiny, fragile size the entire story, for me it was a little creepy.
Also... on top of all of that ick, the story was way too far fetched. Chemicals and killing off an entire town?? Yeah, ok.
Sorry for my novel review, hopefully it saves someone else the pain of trying to read this story.

I've noticed recently (as I'm sure other avid readers have found too) that, for some reason the prices are hiking up considerably to the point that I'm actually buying less and re-reading my considerable library of purchased books over again. Considering that these are ebooks and not paper, they seem to be now outreaching the price of paperbacks which, is strange and, honestly quite frustrating as, their Standards + Quality + Content + Value + Paperless ≤ (less than or equal to) their previous books and does not warrant the price hike in my opinion. Thereby my search for enough decent affordable new novelists that have written decent ebook novel has been cut back considerably and, at the rate they are increasing their prices, my purchase of these books will most likely match it. So, in a nutshell they are defeating the object, which is selling their books.
Anyhoos, having said that, back to this series, read all this series so far and, I have to say it's not really bad, good storyline and interesting secondary characters that lead to their own stories. Would recommend if you love intrigue, modern romance stories.

Doc isn't interested and keeps everyone at arms length because has hiding something.
Good characters and dialogue. The story is ok and flows quite well. It has everything you expect from a Nicole snow romance. Definitely entertaining and worth a look.

Loving these stories of Hearts Edge.
They are heartwarming, action packed, steamy and have wonderful HEA's.
I loved Doc from the first book but fell in love with him even more in his own story. I adored Ember and so glad that it was she who wedded the Doc.
Loved all the characters again too.
