Nothing good happens after midnight
A serial killer has 2 hours left before the lethal injection will end his life. No remorse and no empathy for his victims , Stephen Ray Vaughn is proud of his murderous
Debra Mead left her son in the car and went shopping in a local store not realizing that a stalker and dangerous killer had her in his sights.
The detective on the case made one phone call and things spiraled in the right direction as FBI Agent Karen Vail takes the investigation in a whole new direction. Something about the killer and kidnapper seems off and the surveillance cameras and other pictures and a car that was seen might help to break it open.
Author Alan Jacobson takes us along with Vail inside the prison cell of this dangerous killer right before he takes his last breath. Questions asked, answers that are vague but an expression in his face that says it all. Someone kidnapped Debra and with the help of several people and a great helicopter pilot coordinating with local law enforcement, the author gives us once again a heart-stopping tension filled ending leaving readers wanting more Vail.
Cell phones can distract drivers, people walking in large crowds, the gym or just about anywhere. Don’t you hate when you are next in line anywhere and the person in front of you is texting or talking on the phone and holding up the line? Maybe you need to call Ed and get the Intruder when used properly it zaps the abuser and shocks the person causing violent and painful reactions. Ed invented it and does not hesitate to use it in the supermarket, gym, movie theater or on the street. Read this inventive and at times humorous yet deadly story titled Cell Phone Intolerant and see for yourself how it works until something changes and lives are in danger and Ed has to decide to continue on or retire the Intruder. Would you want one to deal with irritating people? Read this story and decide whether you and Ed have something in common. Story by Kevin O’Brian thought provoking and could be profitable in the right market!
Night shift reminds us of the fact that the news media works 24/7. Calling and talking to Jeff if seems that they could talk about personal things and with the police on the line hoping to stop this guy from killing lots of people. But not all endings are what you hope for and thinking you did the right thing: read the ending you might think twice before you do what Jeff did. An ending that author Linwood Barclay created that makes you question our legal system.
Jeffrey Deaver presents a chilling account of what the effect of a piece of music has on the mind of this man. A concert featuring a piece titled Midnight Sonatina a piece that caused the composer to go mad and there’s no record of it having been played again so what caused the violent and odd behavior of Robert , Beth’s husband and the murders. A lawyer has to present a defense for his client but what kind would this one present for a man who never took drugs, not violent and seemed to be in a fugue state not aware of his surroundings or able to express himself.
Selling his Tonic : Dr.Bell had a profitable business but just what were the components? A young baseball player was buried, and the deputy sheriff thought something odd happened where he was buried. Two men had a handler who wanted fresh bodies dig up and replaced with pieces of tree bark why?

A sheriff who learns the truth, a Dr. that wants to expand his business and an ending that will leave you stunned and wanting to place a permanent guard over your loved one’s coffins. Author D.P. Lyle created characters so heinous, greedy and unfeeling while justifying their actions.
Midnight is when the action begins, and men congregate in a bar before going out and dealing with the slopes. One man, George is in charge and must teach the new guy the ropes. Where you sit, who you can talk to and the conversations allowed. Tension rises when Kyle the new guy attempts to break the rules. All George wants is to profess his feelings to Karen, but will that ever happen? George is a CAT driver in the Arctic area who claims his wife was killed by a robot and that he thinks he saw a figure that looks like a snowman like fellow lying in the freezing river but why? True or false?
George is obsessed with the memory of when his wife was killed and suddenly the site of someone makes him realize just how killed her and why? Taking a life was not hard but another person was a serial killer so how did both get hired by his company? The ending is tension filled, the murders might go unsolved, but the love of two people might overcome it all or will it? Shannon Kirk presents a psychological short story filled with mystic, tension, specter and a man named George who is on quest to finally put the murder of his wife to rest is this over? ATM: Jon Land: Venn needs money and fast but all that he has left on his ATM card is 50 dollars or so he thought. The midnight hour is here, and he is searching for an ATM to collect what he has left but something happens that will trigger events that will change his path forever. The machine takes his card, refuses to give it back and instructs him to go to a specific address and tells him: You will know when you get there. For some reason he does go, and he saves the life of a woman only to return to the machine and 1000 dollars pours out but not his card. Given another address to do another good deed and this is repeated until the machine gives him back his card and then goes silent. Helping at an all-night free clinic but not before stopping a young boy from making a poor decision. The ending is startling and Venn’s future you won’t believe but the next time you go to an ATM machine don’t be surprise if it gives you instructions, makes you do several tasks and you too might wind up no longer alone, feeling lost but definitely wondering why me? Why this ATM machine as author Jon Land takes us down the streets of NYC at night meeting the underworld, the downtrodden and a man named Venn.
Other stories included are from John Lescroart the story entitled Easy Peasey, another The Sixth Decoy by Paul Kemprecos and Midnight in the Garden of Death by Heather Graham, Hank Phillippi Ryan, All Aboard and finally Gone Forever by Lassiter/Martinez: by Joseph Badal. Each story tole during the nighttime midnight hour. Each story deals with nightmares, and overnight train, a group of teens who decide to sleep in an infamous cemetery. Rules are broken and trouble ensues, and the ending will leave you bone chilled.
Stories that will keep you up at night. All vividly depicting the mind and actions of each main character and an introduction by Jeffrey Deaver with a solid warning you want to read before entering the pages and living the stories along with the characters.
A fantastic analogy. Nothing good happens after midnight: decide how and why after reading tases none chilling stories.
I wholeheartedly recommend this anthology. It’s an entertaining, spooky read that introduces the reader to some authors they may not have had the pleasure of reading yet, or, validate the reason why they love a particular favorite author.
I received an ARC of this book which I voluntarily read and reviewed and my comments are my honest opinion.
