Joshua James followed an unusual path to arrive here (i.e. writing in third person about himself in an author biography). He has worked as both an accountant and a graphic artist. Before either of those pursuits, he submitted a string of short stories to Analog, Asimov's, F&SF and Interzone. He even got a couple published. But finding an agent and writing on spec dampened his enthusiasm. Still, his childhood love for Robotech and ST:TNG meant he could never truly ignore his geek side (and also meant he wrote Star Trek/Robotech crossover fan fiction--yes, that's a thing). He has written or co-written more than 50 novels. They all involve spaceships. Joshua lives outside Washington D.C. with his family.

This is the common Kindle sci-fi story of cardboard characters against an unquantifiable menace from the stars. Shapeshifting aliens that turn their arms into knives (shades of Terminator) try to take over the known world. A complete lack of science doesn't help; neither do ungrammatical sentences and the inanimate cased nouns like "the room's door" and 'the chair's armrest". This is not a four book set but has five books with more to follow but I doubt you'll care. I certainly would wish to read not one line more. There is nothing new or original here but other and better sci-fi copied and poorly imitated.

I've read worse [ but probably not all the way through ] . There again I've also read far better offerings . At 99p I at least managed to finish the whole series but it wasn't the most exciting storyline . The writing wasn't too bad and the writers did try hard to draw you in but it was , in all , a rather weak story and really not very convincing . But for the price I managed to live with it . However if there were follow up books I wont be rushing back to buy them .
