I have sinful thoughts about one of my students. Every night. I picture her in my bed. In my shower. Underneath me. Right up against the chalkboard. I’m especially fond of that one.
In my defense, I know her thoughts are as sinful as mine. She’s begging me with her beautiful blue eyes. She’s daring me to cross the line.
No, I’m not a good man. And I’m done pretending to be. I know exactly what I’m going to do to her as soon as she walks into my office hours…

About the author

Ivy Smoak is the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and Amazon #1 bestselling author of The Hunted Series. Her books have sold over 2 million copies worldwide.
When she's not writing, you can find Ivy binge watching too many TV shows, taking long walks, playing outside, and generally refusing to act like an adult. She lives with her husband in Delaware.
It’s been a wild ride to chase her dreams...
“I believe anything is possible if you’re tenacious and not willing to let go of your dreams. I still pinch myself knowing how far I’ve come after all the nos I received early on. I found a love for reading in elementary school. I was in the lowest reading class and I was determined to work my way up to the highest. So one summer, I read and read and read some more. And I never stopped. I fell in love with stories. But even though I did work my way up into the highest reading class, I never would have dreamed to be on the other side of the stories I loved so much.
I always wished I could become an author. I just never thought it was possible. But in college, I decided to chase my dream. I wrote my first novel junior year and was…denied by dozens of literary agents. I could have stopped right there. I was basically told it was a pipe dream. That there was no room for my voice in the literary world. But I really hate being told no. So I didn’t let that stop me.
I wrote another book. One I thought was much better than the one I originally submitted to agents. And instead of even approaching literary agents this time, I decided to publish it on my own. I sold maybe 20 copies of that first self-published book. The market basically told me…no.
But the third time’s a charm. With the popularity of Fifty Shades of Grey, my fiancé (now husband) Ryan Hauge encouraged me to read it. He was convinced that this genre was going to be the perfect fit for me. That the reason my first two books didn’t work was because I hadn’t found my niche. And I felt it. This was it. I was meant to be an author. And I was meant to write romance. I started writing right away. And I’ve never looked back.
The response from readers was overwhelming. I was constantly being told how different my romance novels are from what people usually read. How I didn’t follow the normal romance formula of happily-ever-afters. That my books were real, and raw, and riveting. They’re a rollercoaster of emotions, which makes sense. Because when I write, my emotions are all over the place. One minute I’m laughing with my characters, and the next scene I’m sobbing like a baby. I always say…if my books don’t make you cry, then I haven’t done my job!
The best compliment I get, though, is when people tell me that they hated reading until they picked up one of my books. So you know what? I just changed my mind. Making readers cry is important, but sharing the joy of reading is even more important. I want my books to be for adults what Harry Potter was for children. I want to get everyone to love reading again!
In 2019, Ryan and I made the crazy decision to both go full-time working on the business. We took the leap together as a team. And as soon as it was our sole focus…it exploded.
My first romance novel, Temptation (The Hunted series book 1), hit #51 on Amazon’s Best Sellers of 2020 in Kindle eBooks. It currently sits at #6 on this year’s list. It was also featured on Southern Livings most popular romance novels of 2020 at #9 – the only book on the list that was neither a new release or a TV show or movie.
And the best part – we’ve grown this amazing group of thousands of readers that come to discuss their love for my books in my Facebook Group – the Ivy Smoaksters. It’s the most supportive, uplifting community of readers. We always say…positive vibes only. The best part about all of this is being able to connect with readers in such a unique way.
I never gave up. I never let anyone tell me no. And now I’ve sold more than a million copies worldwide, exclusively through self-publishing. I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. Because there are still so many fun milestones to hit.
I’m entirely self-published, and I love the control that gives me over my stories. But I still believe that a dream partnership with a publisher is out there. One who understands my vision and loves my characters as much as I do. We’ll find each other soon, I just know it.
And then there’s my ultimate goal - to see my stories come to life as a TV show. And it’s going to happen. Because let’s be honest…everyone wants to see that steamy, wild office scene from Temptation on the big screen. And I never take no for an answer.”

This is basically how the books goes, James is obsessed with penny, there is absolutely no character development with Penny, all we get from James POV is he’s obsessed with watching her, breathe, he’s a bad man, she has red hair, breathe, I’m a bad man, breathe, let me have one taste of penny, breathe, I should walk away but I can’t breathe. Insert some therapy for unknown problems James has. Mentions other characters but no friggin idea why they are there. Do yourself a favor, and do not waste your time, I’ve read over 200 books in 2021 so far, it’s November, and this will be memorable as it’s the worst book I’ve read so far. Hate to say it, usually I end up liking all books I read, but this ended on a cliffhanger to boot and a stupid one at that, don’t waste your time, breathe lol.
This is the first book in The Hunted series from James Hunter’s point of view. James’s Obsessed corresponds with Penny’s Temptation.
This is James and Penny’s story. Fans will find new material here as we get into James’s head and read his first-hand accounts of events that are only touched upon in Temptation. If you are anxious to read more, The Hunted series is already complete and a great companion read.
Fans of the Empire High series will especially appreciate reading The Hunted from James’s POV because they have been following his story since his high school days. James’s difficulties had already begun then, and the reasons for his despair are touched upon in those books. This series will thus have a more personal connection for fans than Penny’s, whose story is good but lacks history.
ABOUT THE HUNTED SERIES:
See James as a teenager in the first four books of the Empire High series (Matt’s story), which gives the backstory for the Untouchables - James, his brother Rob, and the Caldwell brothers – Mason and Matt. There are other books that are spinoffs to these books, including the Men of Manhattan series of standalones: City of Sin, Third Chances, and Missing Pieces.
The Men of Manhattan series intersects with The Hunted series. While each series can be enjoyed on its own, each book is even more enjoyable when read collectively because little glimpses of the characters from one book to another add to the depth of their individual stories. Approximating the chronological order, the two series combined should be read as follows (according to the author).
1. Temptation (James Hunter and Penny Taylor’s story, part 1)
2. Addiction (James Hunter and Penny Taylor’s story, part 2)
3. City of Sin (Mason Caldwell and Bridget Cowen’s story)
4. Eruption (James Hunter and Penny Taylor’s story, part 3)
5. Third Chances (Rob Hunter and Daphne Hughes’s story)
6. Devotion (James Hunter and Penny Taylor’s story, part 4)
7. Missing Pieces (Tyler Stevens and Hailey Shaw’s story)
8. Bonus Epilogue (James Hunter and Penny Taylor’s story, epilogue)
James and Penny Hunter’s romance continues in the three-book The Light to my Darkness series, which includes:
1. The Light to my Darkness (James and Penny Hunter, part 1)
2. A Whirlwind of Color (James and Penny Hunter, part 2)
3. This Is Love (James and Penny Hunter, part 3)
FROM OBSESSED, TEMPTATION FROM JAMES’S POV, BOOK ONE:
James Hunter, twenty-seven, has a second lease on life. The tech billionaire is starting over per his therapist’s advice, and though he might not always be honest with Dr. Clark, Dr. Clark has the rather uncanny ability to read his mind. That led James to walk away from his company, his family, his friends, and the city he feels so comfortable in. New York is always buzzing with activity that suits his need to keep busy. James needs distractions to keep his thoughts in the present, and he is known for being a bit impulsive. Hoping to make better choices, he tries to listen to his therapist. He could be anywhere and yet he finds himself at the University of New Castle, in Delaware of all places. The air is cleaner than in the city, so he can breathe much easier. He is teaching now, something he recently discovered he loves. Things had been going well until the last several weeks when he began to find it difficult to breathe again.
But something shifted as he set out to work on the first day of classes in the fall. It was a chance encounter at a coffee shop on Main Street that he found his new obsession. It was a timid redhead that rocked his world and gave him a new reason to live. Her presence alone lifted his darkness and made it easier for him to breathe. But he soon learned that the mystery woman was an undergrad – and had signed up for his COMM 212 course, Oral Communication in Business. It was a class taken mostly by seniors who had yet to satisfy the requirement, which meant that she would be forbidden fruit for the next couple of semesters.
James might know that a relationship with Penny Taylor outside of class is forbidden, but everything about her feels right. He soon begins to smile again, and every well-intentioned attempt to push her away eventually ends in failure. As James battles with his warring feelings, he and Penny begin to flirt with danger. Discovery could end them both- his academic career and her degree. Things might still be mostly innocent between the pair, but there is no doubt about the fiery connection that they share. The couple faces outside pressure as they contemplate a relationship that seems doomed to fail. His career could be on the line if word of their secret relationship gets out, but carrying on with the charade becomes challenging as the lies begin to build. And as James begins to suspect that Penny has secrets of her own, his feelings become more unstable. This story ends in an explosive cliffhanger that could change everything.
Don’t forget to download the free steamy bonus scene via the link at the back of the book.
Wow! James and Penny’s angsty story keeps you on your toes as the couple faces challenge after challenge. Though much is sensational, there is a lot that feels very real here as well. That is part of the beauty of the story. The characters are terribly flawed. You might not always like them – and you might find yourself shouting out loud as the angsty twists and turns keep coming. James and Penny make some big mistakes, and there is no happy ending here (yet). If you’ve already read The Hunted series, you know that James and Penny face many more challenges before finding their HEA.
There are a number of other characters that play a role in this story as well. Tyler Stevens, Penny’s friend and classmate, is clearly making moves on her. It stirs jealousy in James, who is largely powerless to stop it. It pushes him to confront his own feelings, but he has bigger issues than that. His own obstacles threaten to end things with Penny before they really begin. He has secrets that could scare her away, and rightly so. There is his history with Rachel … and his wife, not to mention his best friends, the Empire High Untouchables, who haven’t exactly been a good example.
James’s attraction to Penny is visceral. The forbidden aspect might play a role in his feelings, but it is so much more than that. Still, James cannot let go of the notion that he doesn’t deserve someone as innocent and kind as Penny. He believes she deserves more than a broken man like him can offer, a man perpetually held prisoner by his past.
James and Penny’s story gets off to an emotionally-charged start in this first book in James’s POV. The couple has a deep connection from the rocky encounter that starts it all. Hang on for the ride in James’s POV which sheds new light on their story. This steamy romance is dripping in angst and will have you reaching for the next book in the series! Their taboo professor-student relationship is wrong in many ways. They both know that, and yet they cannot deny their attraction to one another. This story is well-written. The plot is somewhat complex. The characters are carefully crafted and real. The story is written in first person in James’s POV. I rate this book 4.5 stars.
I received an advance copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I skipped to the end just to write the review. I just couldn't stand the story anymore.

My heart honestly broke for James and what he's been through in his past and how he was with penny. I loved being inside his head and heart.
This book was also a lot more steamier than the rest of the Hunted series.
The heart ache the love the ups and downs and the cliffhanger . Just wow I never so tht coming.
I always love ivy's books as she is an amazing author and person but this 1 has jumped to the top.
Thanks again for pulling me in and letting me be apart of it , it's almost like ur right there with them.
Loved James point of view and can't wait for more

After reading Temptation from Penny's POV I always wondered what James thought, what he was doing when he wasn't with her, how he felt etc and Obsessed gives you all the details, I mean ALL the dirty, loving caring details that you may have wondered about.
If you've read any of the Empire High books, and loved teenage James, you will love him even more, I really just want to give him a hug :-)
I really hope the rest are written soon!!

Although I would have like to have read more about James in his own time during the first half of the book. It seemed all he did was Comm class and Penny. Surely he had other classes and work etc? The second half did show more of this with his interactions with Ian, Ellen and Rob which was great.
I can’t wait for the next instalment! As always Ivy has left us on a cliff hanger and I’m dying to find out what happened in New York!!!
