DAN MORA.....and an actual fresh take on Arthurian legend

Dan Mora is one of my absolute favorite artists out there, whose work I purchase faithfully without glancing at the author. Thankfully, Kieron Gillen turned out to be a perfect pairing. The premise of the book sounds familiar (yet another 'reimagining' of Arthurian legend), but it ends up being something new entirely. This is mostly thanks to the gun-toting, monster-slaying grandma Bridgette, a refreshingly witty character written with such sass that she stole my heart early on. Her grandson Duncan took a few issues for me to take to him, but by the end I was rooting for the both of them. Their droll bickering was amusing, and over the course of the story revealed the deep familial connection they have with each other. The only thing I wanted more of here was character development for some of the side characters, more specifically Rose, Galahad, and Elaine...but hopefully they can continue to build out the cast of characters in the second volume.Oh, and Dan Mora's art just continues to get better with time. Facial expressions, dynamic action scenes, epic zombie King Arthurs with just guts and skeletal muscles...he's got it all down to a science. By far the best artist Boom's got right now, he doesn't disappoint in either the panels or the covers for each issue. As good as this story was, Mora is unquestionably the best part of it, and makes this one of the best new additions to the comic world. More Mora, please.

Oh, and Dan Mora's art just continues to get better with time. Facial expressions, dynamic action scenes, epic zombie King Arthurs with just guts and skeletal muscles...he's got it all down to a science. By far the best artist Boom's got right now, he doesn't disappoint in either the panels or the covers for each issue. As good as this story was, Mora is unquestionably the best part of it, and makes this one of the best new additions to the comic world. More Mora, please.
