Once Upon A Real Good Time (Heartbreakers Book 1) Kindle Edition
The night I met Campbell all I knew was he played my body the same way he strummed a guitar — like he owned it. Now I’ve learned he’s the man coming to my house twice a week to teach my kid — the best music lessons money can buy.
Time to turn down the volume on the late-night shenanigans with the sexy single dad.
All we have to do is set some rules and no one gets hurt. It’s all working out beautifully.
Until we start breaking the rules, one by one.

Once Upon a Real Good Time is the first book in Blakely’s new Heartbreakers series of romantic comedies about three rock star brothers. This is Campbell and Mackenzie’s story, both of whom are single parents, which is a favorite theme of mine. I especially love single dad heroes, and Campbell was an involved, caring, devoted one. He was sexy and so swoon-worthy with his sultry crooning and his filthy dirty talk. Not to be outdone, Mackenzie was a confident, sexy and doting single mom in her own right, and she gave just as good as she got in the dirty talk department. The chemistry between the two of them was instantaneous and white hot. They bonded immediately, and their effortless rapport along with some flirty banter and witty dialogue resulted in a once-in-a-lifetime connection that made Campbell and Mackenzie’s romance a completely unputdownable page-turner.
Blakely continually feeds my romcom addiction with charming plots, endearing characters and steamy romances, but if this heartwarming, heated and humorous story is any indication of what’s to come, the Heartbreakers series may very well end up topping my list of favorites from her. I loved absolutely everything about this breezy, happy, fun romance. A touch forbidden, smolderingly sexy and a whole lot sweet, Once Upon a Real Good Time was exactly the kind of heart-soaring, smile-stretched-across-my-face, blush-inducing romcom that I love reading most from Lauren Blakely. I couldn’t get enough of these characters or their story, and I had a hard time putting it down. Once Upon a Real Good Time by Lauren Blakely get five smooches from me!
The 2 main characters in this story are amazing!! Loved Mackenzie from the start. She has the most unique family situation of any character I've read and the way she embraces it to thrive in it, is what made her a wonderful person. She is a single mother to a 13 year old child music prodigy, who honestly thrives due to his mother and father. Kyle's father is Jamison, but he and Mack have never been married. For reasons you'll just have to read to find out. But they co-parent like no bodies business!!! The only flaw in this is that Mackenzie has given up everything for her son's happiness. Meaning, she doesn't have an actual social life!!
Campbell is, ironically, also a musical prodigy that has mastered several instruments, been a child broadway actor, and a teen heartthrob in a pop band. He gave up fame when his wife died leaving him alone with a 2 year old daughter. What he and Mackenzie have in common is giving up their personal lives for the benefit of raising their children. Campbell is also a music tutor working with exceptional kids on the violin.
Now, you would think they meet through the music lessons, but no!! They meet at a bar that has trivia contests and live music. Mackenzie happens to be there with her awesome friend, Roxy, playing in a trivia contest and Cam;bell is in the band playing that night. They notice each other but nothing happens that evening due to other commitments. When they meet again 2 weeks later, sparks fly!!! Their chemistry literally flew off the pages of this book!!! What was suppose to be only a one night stand turned into soooooo much more!
Now, the secondary characters in the book almost out shined the main characters!!! Kyle and Samantha were amazing and they were teenagers!!! You could tell they were raised by wonderful parents. And they had a lot to do with their parents getting together, the sneaky little devils!! Jamison was a wonderful addition to the group. Not only as Kyle's father but as Mackenzie's friend. He helped raise an amazing son and was a voice of reason for Mack. His support for his little unorthodox family was touching!! He was also instrumental in getting the love bird together. Then there's Roxy!!!! Nothing would have happened between Mackenzie and Campbell if Roxy had not been around!!! She's a great best friend who loves her people dearly!! She's also funny as hell!!!
All in all, this book ROCKED!!!! I highly recommend it to EVERYONE!!! Now on to Miller's story in Once Upon A Sure Thing!!!!!!

Our two leads are Mackenzie and Campbell, both who are single parents to teenagers. As you can imagine as single parents dating doesn't come easily and more so when Campbell turns out to be her son's music teacher as his day job plus a real life retired boyband rockstar.
Campbell is as hot as they come, funny, witty and oh so charming! He is single dad to Sam, his lovely daughter who loves to bake and owns his heart. Campbell is part of a casual band that plays local gigs, though many don’t know he is a retired rockstar who just wants a drama free life with his daughter.
Mackenzie is a beautiful, sarcastic, independent single mum. Her son is incredibly smart and has a passion for music. She runs her own business, after getting pregnant in her last year of studies. She is a quiz and random fact queen, which I just love! Her life is all for her son, nothing will get in the way of his happiness.
Mackenzie and Campbell have an instant attraction that leads to an amazingly hot one night stand with some great conversation thrown in but neither of them want the night to end! They set up a second date, a rain check if you will however when Mackenzie discovers Campbell will be her sons music teacher she calls it off determined not to risk her sons happiness.
However we all know attraction like that doesn’t just die, they see each other all the time and the sexual tension is building by the day. Hallmark meets heated sheets for sure!!
I would have enjoyed more of an epilogue but hopefully we see a wee bit of them in the next books. I’ll have to get downloading and see.
