This movie should be seen by everyone!

This is one of the best movie's I've seen in the past several months, let alone all year! It seems like these days when you have a lot of good actors.and actresses, the movie still isn't very good, but this one had the perfect cast to portray these real life heroes in this incredible true story about the Granite Mountain Hotshots Firefighters in Prescott, Arizona, back in '07. This movie is extremely well done and is sure to pull on your heartstrings while watching. I wasn't really sure who Joseph Kosinski was, but he did a fantastic job directing this movie. I highly recommend this movie to everyone! I would like to say more about this movie, but I don't want to ruin anything. Whether you rent or buy, I guarantee you won't be disappointed. I will definitely watch this more than once and am happy that it's joining my library of movies.

5 stars is too little to rate this beautiful film. I'll admit

This is one of the few instances where I wish Amazon used a 10 star rating method instead of 5. 5 stars is too little to rate this beautiful film.

I'll admit, I went into the theater to watch this film with no foresight on the actual story. I knew it was based on a true story but that's as far as my insight was as I was experiencing a "tragedy" of my own in my personal life when this tragic event occurred in real time in 2013. So I didn't know the outcome. This movie has a spectacular cast (I mean, Josh Brolin, Jeff Bridges, Jennifer Connelly..they're truly beyond amazing!) but they're only part of the magic of this film and the story behind it. You truly get a captivating sense of what Wildland Firefighters (and ALL Firefighters) go through and this movie helped capture that - as well as giving us a touch of the personal lives of those who were involved.

The movie starts off slightly slow but it's not in any way deterring. Plenty of funny moments, surreal moments and, of course, tearful moments! A great homage to those who gave their lives (and will do so) and are truly heroes! Just make sure you have tissues!

SPOILER FREE REVIEW

I was very surprised by this film. Not knowing anything about the story beforehand I was engaged and interested from the start. All the acting is great even the smaller roles do a great job to help give this story authenticity and heart. Josh Brolin as the lead dissappears into the role and delivers a deep and moving performance. He really carries the movie and his portrayal has depth and charisma that wasn't apparent immediately. This movie is brilliantly shot and all the fire scenes do a great job of putting you in the men's shoes and shows how heroic and brave every one of the wildfire fighters has to be to protect the rest of us. I hope more people support this movie so we can keep getting great independently made movies removed from the big studio formula. Honest and amazing movies like this one need to be supported so we can get more of them.

Heart-wrenching True Story
Verified purchase
Heart wrenching story of the Granite Mountain Hotshot crew. It's not just about the Yarnell fire that took 19 of the 20 on the crew - it follows them from being a trainee group to getting certified as hotshots years before the Yarnell fire ever happened. Following the lives of Eric Marsh and Brendan McDonough closer than the others, it shows Marsh's leadership to guide the young crew through a dangerous job. It follows McDonough (Donut) on his path from drug addict to hard working wild land firefighter.

Josh Brolin does an excellent job on his portrayal of Eric Marsh. I have read books about the crew and he worked hard to honor the men who lost their lives on June 30, 2013. All of the cast was excellent - Miles Teller as McDonough, Taylor Kitsch as Chris Mackenzie and Jennifer Connelly as Amanda Marsh... Though we all know how this movie ends, I was still on the edge of my seat watching the outcome. I first saw it in the theaters and then later bought it.

I plan to get to the Granite Mountain memorial site soon - it's a 4 mile hike one way to get to the site where the men died. Along the path are memorials to each of them and I would love to honor them by making the in total, 8 mile hike for them.

Check this movie out. It's heartbreaking but portrayed wonderfully!

A movie that accurately highlights the courage and sacrifice of wildland firefighters.

Very well-done movie that gives a very accurate depiction of what Hotshot crews must endure on a daily basis. The real characters are developed in detail as the movie progresses. I read two books on this event and the movie tracks the real story without any unnecessary embellishment. The tragic ending for the Granite Mountain Hotshots is depicted as well as it can be and brings home all too well the dangers inherent in this profession.

Must see!!!!

Would give more than 5 stars if possible. As a wildland firefighter, I can say that even small details weren't spared to retell the story of GMIHC. Very touching and shows what wildland firefighters and their families go thru during fire season. The entrapment segment is word for word of the actual incident transcript and one can only imagine what these men faced with fire raving towards them as they gave the ultimate scarific trying to save a town.

Two interesting hours with a gut-wrenching ending

The actors did a fine job....as for the storyline itself, there is no point in writing a review of an actual life event. The movie is worthy of viewing solely as a form of salute to people who place their lives on the line for others.
