The grammar and spelling are accurate, and believe me, as I'm sure you, too, have encountered, this is not always the case for ebooks (or even conventionally published printed ones).
If you are a fan of typical action thrillers, and science fiction, check this prequel story out to get a taste. This story was written and released after the actual Biogenesis War trilogy was started and is chronologically set before the start of the formal trilogy itself. Sometimes, when you encounter stories written like this, there is accidental (or intentional) revisionist "history" to the ancillary details, this story does not suffer from that.
To address one of the negatives that have been called out - yes, this is a short story. 97 pages in total. It also includes preview chapters of other books in the same universe to increase the size. I paid $1.49 and do not feel cheated. The current (as of this writing) price is listed at $0.99, which is an even better price for the consumer.
Go ahead ... grab a copy ... it's a gateway story into the delightful story created by LL Richman. I think you'll agree that it's entertaining, engaging, and well developed.
Katie Hyer is an orphan making her living by collecting metal ores for Cobalt Mining. Her collection in Cobalt Mining Section Twelve is cut short by an unknown known ship flying dark.
The ship running dark had run-in with an Alliance Navy Vessel.
The Scimitar, a fast action Helios utility ship was taking a Special Recon Group group to an impromptu war game at the decommissioned platform the dark-running ship is heading towards.
The dark running ship that passed very close to Katie’s ship, The Goblin, is a Secede Sirius ship. They are on target to platform Sierra Twelve.
Then the action begins. Katie decides to follow the SS ship. The war game is canceled and The Scimitar with the Special Recon Group group onboard is directed to do what they do best — engage and interdict opposing forces — in conjunction with their war game opponents.
Meanwhile, 18-year-old Katie has entered the platform with an intent to take out the invaders.
Operation Cobalt is filled with action as Katie and the Recon Group work towards taking out the secessionists and rescuing the hostages they have captured.
If you like novels that have a resourceful young heroine with the initiative to decide to counter a group of really bad guys while not realizing the recon group is also looking take out the invaders. And oh yes, she has to worry about her traveling companion, Fred the dog. It all comes together in a logical way that leads to a satisfying conclusion.
With an 18 year old heroine don’t think for a minute the is a YA novel. It has a YA heroine but what happens in it is all adult grade.
The is actually a prequel novella to the Chiral Agent introducing several of the main players that you'll see in all the books!
Here's a few of my favorite bits that I pulled from the tale!
"...remember the OODA Loop.” Slater’s voice rang in her head, his words as clear as if he was walking alongside her. “Observe. Orient. Decide. Act. These steps may save your life one day.”
“Most platforms have a small group of kids, employees’ children, who are raised there,” he explained. “Platform rats are easily bored, stuck on a small station like this for long periods of time. They can get into an interesting amount of trouble when left on their own.”
“Remember what Doc always says: ‘Luck is the residue of preparation.’ Icing on the cake, nothing more.”
Katie launches a rescue mission for her friends on the station. Her quick and creative thinking show both the secessionists who captured the station and the Geminate SpecOps team sent to free the station that you don’t mess with friends of Katie Hyer, especially on her home turf.
A really fun read!
Don't waste your money, it should cost no more than $3.50 for the amount of content you will get.
