The Order Returns (The Chain Breaker Book 6) Kindle Edition
The arrival of a dangerous sorcerer forces Gavin to confront his past.
As Gavin works with the El’aras to master his connection to the ring, he learns of an El’aras prophecy that speaks of the Shard and a Champion.
One must destroy the other.
Though Gavin doesn’t believe in prophecy, he can’t deny that he’s caught up in something greater than he understands—and begins to suspect he’s been guided toward his fate.
The arrival of a powerful sorcerer tests Gavin’s belief. If he can’t stop the Sul’toral, he might have no choice but to fulfill the ancient prophecy and destroy someone he’s come to deeply care about.

This poor guy keeps coming back for more of the same battles with magical forces. Somewhat repetitious but still enjoyable.

And each time he encounters a new threat, at the very moment of likely defeat..surprise!..he suddenly discovers a new power or style of combat or weapon. What a (repetitive) coincidence! Sigh. This is getting tiresome.
His constant reflections about how much everyone, including himself, is changing is also definitely NOT matched by complex relationship developments between the characters. I also find the endless cynical wisecracking of his sidekick Gaspar predictable and, worst of all, quite unbelievable given the dire circumstances during which they are often uttered.
I have followed this series from Book 1, with declining enthusiasm, and now Book 6 has finally convinced me that l am simply being fed an endless, rambling, plot which offers a gumbo of all the stock leftover fantasy villians built on the base of the one original concept of the Chainbreaker.
I give up!
had trouble putting this one down. The Chain Breaker series is one of his best so far.
