How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsNot a real candle, dude.
Reviewed in the United States on September 15, 2019
The first thing I noticed was the pitiful little votive ion the cover, floating in the beer foam.

Really? It’s not even a real candle. It’s a votive. Those little cheap inserts you pop down into glass holders.

What am I going to learn from a guy who can’t even afford a real candle?

I have been a student of learning for all my adult life. I have been to spiritual retreats, workshops, conferences. I attended a Louise’ Hay (Hands of Light) workshop decades ago. I have been blessed to have sat in a church pew and listened firsthand to spiritual speakers before they were globally famous: Depok Chopra, Gary Zukav, Marianne Williamson, Wayne Dyer. I listened to Mark Victor Hanson and Jack Canfield talk about their upcoming book “Chicken Soup for the Soul” and how excited they were for this project. I even had the ultimate honor of ushering for the Dali Lama on his visit to Ann Arbor, Michigan long ago. I have poured over Eckart Tolle’s “The Power of Now” and “A New Earth”. So, I am not new to the search for self-growth, self-awareness – enlightenment.

But if you are new, then none of the above paragraph means anything to you. And that is fine.

Great really – because that is the beauty and power of this book.

Einstein is attributed with saying, “If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough.” This quote definitely applies to “An Ordinary Dude’s Guide to Enlightenment.” The author ‘gets it’. And because he ‘gets is’, he is able to convey it in a way that helps us ‘get it’ too.

Fun. Entertaining. So, so, helpful.

I believe if you are reading this then there is something in this book for you. Maybe you have wondered about ‘enlightenment’ and what all the fuss is about. Maybe this will be the start of a new journey for you. Maybe it will just answer some nagging questions. Or maybe it will just let you follow along in some of your girlfriend’s conversations. Doesn’t matter which – I am 100% confident reading this book will benefit you in some way.

You don’t have to spend years sitting listening to lectures or reading tomes of books if you don’t want to – you have what you need to get started right here. Just a click away.

That orange box. Buy now.

And, maybe...just maybe...if enough of us buy this book, the author can afford a real candle.

This is a stupid book, in my opinion. I bought it because of good reviews and to further "enlighten" myself?
I kept reading on, thinking somehow the writing would improve, not to mention the content.
A better book to ponder in my view is "And Never Stop Dancing" (2006) which gives clues on how to be a better human being. Bookbug

5.0 out of 5 stars A fresh Take on Enlightenment

I love the down-to-earth approach to enlightenment this guy brings to the table. I'm a spiritual seeker, often disappointed by organizations, and even people, that claim to have all the answers. This book comes at it from a different angle, recognizing that enlightenment might look a little different than what we've been told, but still attainable without moving to a monastery. It's easy to read with clear, actionable steps for those of us spread throughout the spectrum of the journey.

The thing I like most about this book is the excellent communication skills of the author. Philosophy is so important to life, and yet it is so often written in language the average person cannot understand. This book is one of a few that are starting a trend that makes critical life information available to the masses, where it is most needed.

This book is the most welcomed newest member to my growing reference library on living. I think it is an important book for everyone to read to help in a time of great stress. With the easily understood ideas in this book, great growth is now more accessible to anyone.

Don't miss out on getting this book!

I,ve read my fair share of enlightenment books and aside from E. Tolle,I would get so pissed off that the author would use esoteric language or spend a whole chapter on something that could be said in a couple sentences! Just friggin tell me like we're talking about last Sundays football game. GET TO THE NITTY GRITTY IN PLAIN ENGLISH!. And I'm pleased to say my man John Weiler has finally done that! Taken a subject that can confuse and frustrate the best of us and just spit it out in everyday language that anyone can grasp. Thanks brother. You da man!👍

Defining what enlightenment is and then providing practical processes for getting to the point of achieving it, for me at least, is both helpful and very appreciated.

The daily journal is a great process for both keeping yourself accountable on the journey and for being able to see consistent progress toward the goal.

I also like the advice not to spend too much time reading about it, but to spend time toward taking steps to achieve it.

Thanks dude!

5.0 out of 5 stars A very different, enjoyable take on an important topic

This book approaches a complicated, sometimes eye-rolling topic in a way that you and I can ‘get’ it. Completely different, very intriguing, and essentially practical, this is something to get you thinking in a constructive but fun way. Go for it: I found it quick to read, but it made me think about a lot of things. There are also pictures.

I found the explanations in this book to be extremely helpful and encouraging because they were so clear and practical. The author described enlightenment in terms that made it approachable to everyone. I would recommend this book to anyone - dude or not - who is on a journey to enlightenment but wishes not to wade through too much woo to get there.

I have read many books related to spiritual concepts. What An Ordinary Dude's Guide to Enlightenment offers is a simple way to appreciate a deep and otherwise intimidating subject. I'm no dude but my family members would really appreciate what I did about this book. It is clear, honest, and accessible. I felt like I stepped into a conversation with the writer and gleaned from his real life experience. When someone can make simple the profound you have found a master. This book accomplishes just that.
