Living on his last dollar, a down and out cowboy ends up working the last place an old cowboy wants to be: A dude ranch. It is here he meets the owner, a no-nonsense rancher with a deep love for horses. McBride's self-discovery begins when she introduces him to a new way of training a troubled mustang, a horse whose past and temperament mirror his own. Based on the novel by Mark Rashid.

I was Script Supervisor for this film and...

As Script supervisor on this film (yes, you now know who missed some details; though I am not going to say which ones!), I wanted to chime in and let folks know something that hasn't been advertised about this movie: it was made completely through the help of our many friends and family. Though our time was short and our budget small, I feel we made a good, solid and entertaining film. The actors were amazing in it, the horses were from our own herd and treated with respect and consideration, and the story is one that resonates with many people. I agree with some of the reviews here; the movie is short on horse scenes and the story is pared down from the story in the book. This doesn't take away from the fact that the film, the actors, and the cinematography are all top notch. This is a movie worth watching - take it from someone who has seen it over 100 times by now.

Very good movie, great job by actors involved

Growing up with horses, but not a 'horse person', there's a certain amount I knew. Later I came to know horses more and yes, as some state there could be more about the horses here, without reading the book, it's still a very good movie. John Diehl just keeps turning up in movies and doing a great job. Surprised to see him in the lead role, but a little more surprised of his performance. He has my respect. A long ways from Miami Vice days. lol
Knowing a few REAL cowboys, and cowgirls, the movie does a good job as time allowed.
Well done. Don't be too critical, sit back and enjoy the movie.

Beautiful story!

Beautiful story, with all the right parts: set in the rugged but contemporary west, with horses and cowboys; a leading man who's in the lowest state of his life, meets up with the right woman who turns him around and lifts him up out of despair; he gets to rescue her from a really bad guy who winds up getting what he deserves, and the end is happy and lovely and full of grace! Great photography and directing, and the actors made you feel like you were there.

Very touching modern western

This is a slow paced story of redemption, romance, and honor, but it's well acted and well scripted. And I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it. So if you're so inclined, give it a whirl.

Great movie!

Aside from the fact we made Henry's saddle, which makes us a little partial, Mark Rashid and crew did a fantastic job with a wonderful story of redemption, healing of the soul, modern cowboy life and how horses should be treated.

Ah, America, where have you gone?

This movie displays a time before that question was aked. ...

Equality--or, better, complementarity--can exist between men and women, but it can arise only organically. This movie, unlike so many dreary "woke" produictions, does not try to force it, and so it avoids the nonsense that pervades today. Hegel once wrote that equality between a man and a woman can exist only when each treats the other as (if as they were) siblings. Such good feeling cannot be legislated. It can arise only, as it has arisen in this movie, when it results from mutual recogniton. And this is the liberty that Ameria at its best aspired to actuate.

Dreadful. Forget she comes onto 'her father figure' and the gross rational disparity between them. Yeech... and the image of a grubby old drunk with a very fine woman. I figured the turn was when she might hook him up with the bookseller - who was a pretty cool character. Hell, every single man in five counties would have attempted to attract the ranch owner's attention. I wanted horses and I got markdowns in the card rack at Dollar Tree. It will take a while for this bad taste to go away.... Yeech.
