Book Title But It's Just a Game Wilma Jean the Worry Machine Personal Space Camp Bubble Gum Brain I Have Ants in My Pants A Flicker of Hope
Description This creative story book teaches both kids and adults how to switch out their game controller for a “life controller.” Video gaming is becoming a part of our culture, and we must be strategic in creating a healthy gaming balance. Kids are given tools to help them control their anxiety and worrying thoughts. Written with style, wit, and rhythm, Personal Space Camp addresses the complex issue of respect for another person’s physical boundaries. great for social-distancing in the classroom. Kids learn how to have a growth mindset and the valuable lesson that becoming is better than being. In I Have Ants in My Pants, Julia Cook helps normalize the feeling many kids have when they struggle to control their wiggles and provides strategies for improving impulse control. This hopeful story emphasizes for children (and adults) the many different ways to ask for help, and their ability to be a hope builder for others, too.

Editorial Reviews

Review

I Have Ants in My Pants by Julia Cook is relatable fun that had my students giggling through my reading of the book. This story tells the tale of a boy who is very wiggly and people keep telling him that he has ants in his pants. He keeps trying to find those ants until his mom finally clues him in that they are talking about his wiggly he is. Love, love, love! --Amy Pope - First grade teacher, Instagram @firstgradesparkles

I love the easily relatable story and the tips at the end of the book to help students control their wiggles! A classroom must-read. --Jeanine Schneider - Teacher, Instagram @thinkgrowgiggle

This book written by Julia Cook is so fun to read. This would be a great book to read to an entire class to discuss other ways to deal with the wiggles. It would also be good for digital learning to discuss ways that teachers and students can get the wiggles out when being in front of the screen all day. This book made me laugh and it also made me smile. --Nita Creekmore - Instagram @loveteachbless

From the Back Cover

Control your wiggles and be the BOSS of your ants.

In "I Have Ants in My Pants," Julia Cook helps normalize the feeling many kids have when they struggle to control their wiggles and provides strategies for improving impulse control.

Some children just can't sit still no matter how hard they try. And Louis is no exception. He accidentally kicks his friend during story time. He can't stand still in the lunch line. And he wiggles in his seat at the movie theater.

Everyone keeps telling him he has ants in his pants, but Louis doesn't see any ants! Louis' mom explains that this means he wiggles a lot, and she teaches him a special tool, the Wiggle Dance.

"Wiggle and jiggle.

Jump up and down.

Shake your hands

and turn around."

"Take a deep breath.

Scrunch up your nose.

Wobble your knees

and wiggle your toes."

With a little practice and a few helpful tools, Louis learns that he can calm his wiggles and become the boss of the ants in his pants!

Julia Cook, M.S.

With millions of books in print, Julia Cook is a former school counselor and teacher who never dreamed she could evolve into a national award-winning children’s author, parenting expert, and inspirational speaker. She now travels the world encouraging students and educators to become lifelong problem solvers. “There are so many ideas out there that need to be shared!” says Julia, who takes top research and creatively translates it into “kid language” that is both entertaining and engaging. Julia has the innate ability to enter the worldview of a child through picture books, giving children both the “what to say” and the “how to say it.”

Several years ago, Julia was searching for an effective story to teach children about the differences between tattling and telling. When she couldn’t find the right resource, she decided to write her own book – A Bad Case of Tattle Tongue. Over a decade later, she has published bestselling books with the National Center for Youth Issues, Boys Town Press, and the CDC. Cook’s ultimate goal: make a positive difference in the lives of people both young and old by teaching lifelong problem-solving skills.

Julia has been endorsed by organizations including the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Safe and Sound (a Sandy Hook initiative,) Childwatch of North America, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Childhelp, Darkness to Light, USA Volleyball, and The Alaska Department of Education. Cook’s research-based books have been referenced in outlets including Parent’s Magazine, The New Yorker, The Chicago Tribune, Military Spouse, Care.com, Yahoo.com, Drlaura.com, and Babyzone.com. She has also been featured on Hallmark Home and Family, CNN’s HLN News, and numerous metropolitan networks. She is the recipient of several book awards including The Association of Educational Publisher’s Distinguished Achievement Award, the National Parenting Seal of Approval, and The Mom’s Choice Award.

Julia frequently delivers entertaining and engaging keynote addresses at counseling, business and leadership, and character development conferences and has presented in thousands of schools both nationwide and internationally.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for those little wigglers that just don't sit still in class
By Heart and Mind Teaching on September 2, 2020
This book is just what I needed to talk to those little wigglers that just don’t sit still, perfect for self-control classroom lessons. Louis from My mouth is a Volcano (another fave book) is back, this time to help teach us to control our wiggles. The book starts out with Louis struggling to control his wiggles on the carpet during storytime, waiting in line in the cafeteria, and while watching a movie in a theater. His mom decided to teach him the wiggle dance:
Wiggle and jiggle.
Jump up and down.
Shake your hands
and turn around.
Take a deep breath.
Scrunch up your nose.
Wobble your knees
and wiggle your toes.
I can already see doing this dance with a bunch of students, they are going to love it! It also discusses personal space, using a focus squishy, and not talking while others are speaking. Staying in our personal space is now more important than ever with the need for safe social distancing, this book is a must-have for teachers and counselors alike.
