Editorial Reviews
Review
“Some of the best children’s books ever written have been about girls . . . like The Paper Bag Princess.”
(The New York Times)“Before we even knew what the word ‘feminist’ was, the titular character of Robert Munsch’s The Paper Bag Princess was there to inspire us to become one. Fierce, smart, and bold, Princess Elizabeth . . . [shows] girls everywhere that not all girls are damsels in distress—plenty of them are heroes, too.”
(Bustle)[T]his morning I searched my mother’s basement for The Paper Bag Princess, and though my daughters are sixteen months old, that is where I will begin. I will read it to them and I hope over time that they will learn Princess Elizabeth’s lessons: Adventure and be fearless. Stand up to dragons. Defend yourself with all you have. Walk away from any man who treats you with disrespect. You, yourself, alone, are enough, and more than enough.
(Francesca Segal, The Hairpin)“A perfect lesson in emancipation and self-confidence.”
(The Indian Express, 10/14/18)“If ever there were a book with the most perfect plot twist, this could be it . . . This princess tale is short and sweet and funny, and empowers young girls to be true to themselves . . . a classic picture book that packs a real punch to the “princess” genre!”
(The Children’s Book Review, 05/18/18)“We can thank Robert Munsch for his gender-breaking book and celebrate its message.”

Another thing I noticed is there have been some changes in wording which I think are not for the better.

Another thing I noticed is there have been some changes in wording which I think are not for the better.

We would never have thought we had to check the "size" of a book when it did not mention in the title that it was a miniature series book.
That being said, we only paid $1.79, so we're not upset, just surprised. Our 3 year old family members will love it.
The writing is a shade too spare and clipped for me, and while I like the illustrations, they don’t “pop” as much as some other books. One star off for that.
A second star off for the packaging. It came in a one of those large mustard yellow lightly padded envelopes, and the mail carrier stuffed it into our mailbox. As a result, the paperback is somewhat curved and misshapen. Sturdier packaging would’ve helped. C’mon, Amazon!
The author, Robert Munsch, continues with his wonderful books. The author has a keen sense of humor, and if the ending doesn't fit how you think, it is always the best. In this book, Elizabeth the Princess has a wonderful life, she has beautiful expensive clothes, she lives in a big castle and is going to marry Ronald the Prince. Then, one day, the big bad Dragon comes along, burns down the castle, steals her clothes and carries off Ronald the Prince. The Princess found a paper bag and decided to wear it. Then off she went looking for the Dragon as he left destruction in his wake.
Parents/teachers will enjoy reading this book to their children. The children will be laughing at the funny language and the Princess's antics. There are lessons to be learned, and it is not the usual ones. The illustrations by Michael Martchenko, are bright, vivid, and beautiful. This story is so funny that everyone who reads it will love the ending.
