About the author

SA Magnusson lives in Minneapolis and writes urban fantasy and scifi. As a practicing physician, SA wanted to mix medicine with a love for fantasy fiction, particularly urban fantasy, creating what one reader described as ER meets the Dresden Files.

Will she be a Mage, fighting her own family ? Who is Dad ? That will be illuminating.
So one or the other or juggling both ... Waiting for more books to find out, and I am no fan of cliff hangers.
Truly worth reading! I highly recommend this book and series!

Review
Overall, the end of the series is pretty satisfying. Things are wrapped up, answers are given, the story arc is closed. And the stuff that bothered me during the last books were still there as well: the action driven plot seemed to leave no room for developing the characters aside from Kate, the protagonist. She was the only person who showed any kind of growing, but that could just be, because there wasn’t a significant amount of time spent with people aside from fighting or plotting how to prevent the equivalent of a magical apocalypse.
Because things are dire in Minneapolis. The council holds Anne Michaels, Kate’s mother, who surprisingly reappeared in the last book. As someone working for some still hidden instigator behind all of the problems Kate encountered in the last months. Kate and her friends and allies suspected that someone wanted to open the Veil, but not who, why and to what avail. All of that is revealed here, including some twists and turns I did not see coming. What did not really surprise me, although it was cool, was the revelation of who and what Kate’s father is.
There are battles galore, showdowns of different kinds, too, and it was pretty entertaining.
The series as such did show more promises with the first two books and it saddens me a bit that it did not really live up to its potential. But maybe I should just take it, as it was: an entertaining urban fantasy series that is based on original premises and that has lots of action and magic. There is a spin-off „Tattered Veil“, but I’m not sure that I’m going to read it. Then there is the announcement about Jen, my sidekick nemesis in this series, getting her own series as well and here I’m totally sure that this won’t be my cup of tea.
