Jolie believes she’s got to be at the lowest point in her life. Someone had stolen her car, she’s reported that her boyfriend is missing and had quit her job at a real estate agency after she’d been asked to play a part in a shady deal. She’s now working part time selling shoes at Nieman Marcus until she can get enough money together to get her own real estate agency off the ground. But things manage to get even worse, and yet funnier. A co-worker talks her into joining her at an exclusive party and doesn’t find out until she’s there, that they crashed the party.
The antics are both somewhat outrageous as well as humorous as Jolie looks for answers about her boyfriend and becomes a suspect in a murder. I loved most of the characters and how they respond to situations. And the mystery is nicely twisted. Many mysteries have clues or situations that are red herrings. In this one each has importance and there is more than one mystery taking place.
A fun romp if you want an escape from reality.
Graphic Sex or Violence: None
There may have been a few swear words, but they did not stand out to me.
Plot: Jolie quits her real estate job because her new boss is doing something illegal and unethical. She is able to get a job at Atlanta's Neiman Marcus in the shoe department. Jolie's boyfriend, Gary, is missing and she does not know if he is dead or if he dumped her. She also makes new friends with Carlotta and Hannah, who crash some of Atlanta's most prestigious parties. When the police find Gary's car in the river with a dead body inside, Jolie becomes involved with the murder investigation. While working at Neiman's, Jolie meets Beck Underwood and continues to run into him, while accidently causing an embarrassing scene each time. Jolie's life is in danger due to Gary's past and his current missing status. I don't want to give more of the plot line away and spoil it.
Characters: I liked Jolie and could identify with her. She was an only child and raised in Dalton, GA which is somewhat of a small town compared to Atlanta. Her parents have died and she is alone, with no friends or family. When Jolie meets Carlotta, she does not know what to think of her. Carlotta seems to have it all but Jolie thinks that Carlotta's party crashing is very inappropriate and distasteful. Carlotta's friend Hannah is a "Goth" caterer who helps Carlotta and Jolie get into the exclusive parties.
I loved Carlotta's character so much that I immediately bought book one of the series, "Body Movers" which is about Carlotta, her brother Wesley and includes Hannah. If you have read any of the Body Movers, consider reading this book before you finish the "Body Movers" series. It may change your perspective of Carlotta.
Location: Shoe department at Neiman Marcus at Lenox in Atlanta..... do I need to say more? The location is Buckhead and the surrounding areas of Atlanta. I also enjoyed reading about the parties and homes.
The romance that develops between Jolie and Beck is sweet and slow. I was surprised at the ending and with the identity of the murderer. Very well done, Ms Bond.

There were some mistakes in it which grated for me, too. I've never been able to figure out myself if missing person's reports has an apostrophe or not and the author here is as confused as sometimes she does and then she doesn't. 'My savings is gone' stood out for me as an "ouch" moment as did tom used in place of torn !!
Liked was used where it should be like and then this line "I'll him that his advice" I assume lost tell and "out a limb" lost on ? I was also lost at the word 'overage'. I'm still wondering what was meant there-perhaps coverage or it's an Americanism I've never heard of before. I didn't understand either why Gary wouldn't need shoes towards the end-baffled by that.
As a rule I do enjoy her books, though, and as this is a prequel to a new series featuring a couple of characters from this story I will take a look at the first in that series for sure at some point.
I can usually work out the 'guilty' & the plot fairly early on, but this book keeps you guessing with all the twists and turns to the very end.
The characters are colourful and well described.
Looking forward to reading further works from this author.
Would most definitely recommend this book to girlfriends/daughter.
This is an enjoyable read. It's not just the fluffy stuff. There's some not so nice stuff going on in the background which keeps you wondering.
Not the most wonderful book, but an easy to read bit of fun.
