Made us jump several times! :-D I also appreciated that the characters aren't boneheaded like in so many of this genre where they do illogical things that no normal person would do like run through the halls in their house in the dark without hitting a light switch or everyone in the family is seeing something but no one says anything about it. It also isn't gory. All in all it was a tasteful, simple, spooky Halloween ghost movie. It also isn't too long- just 1.5hr. If you have reasonable expectations you'll enjoy this.

After watching many stinker films over the past few years in which Nick Cage starred, this was really a great suprisingly good film. Sarah Wayne is a great actress as well and she also provides an excellent performance.

This certainly had a new and different twist to it when it comes to supernatural or paranormal type films. It also brings out the very drop to the ground feeling a parent experiences at the moment they realize their child who only a moment ago was safely standing right next to them and has now disappeared while surrounded by a massive crowd of strangers.

This Nick Cage movie was even better than the one we watched a few days earlier and we have recommended it to our Daughter who is also a fan of Mr. Cage.

In a lot of today’s movies we see plenty of nothing really, where there are poorly lit scenes going on forever & too much ugliness. To the contrary, THIS movie was great! Loved the family bond between parents & son, the scenes in both the city & family home. Skillful lighting. A ghostly scary story, quite horrific indeed but done with talent & an interesting storyline easy to follow. Nic Cage is a favorite of mine as well as Sarah Wayne Callies.

Now, I don't expect much from Nic Cage, I like him, he has been in many great movies. He is, at this point a comforting presence in a movie. To commiserate with as you plod along with him through cumbersome plots, often just as confused about what is going on as you are.
I am only too happy to adventure with him, whether he is stealing cars, the declaration of independence, or thwarting vengeful child stealing ghosts.
This movie is a buffet of fun horror tropes and cliches that seem to be fighting each other for dominance.
I couldn't decide what was the scariest thing, so I put in all the scary things that I saw in other movies - director probably.
Due to budget constraints there was no elevator full of blood, or stay puft marshmallow men, and also nowhere at any point were any ghosts paid...
A mediocre horror movie, carried solely on Mr. Cages charisma.

This is a haunting tale of what we fear can happen on any given night of Carnival or certainly All Hallows Eve. Strange how we can find safety in a horrific tale where children are disappeared on Halloween night, especially when kids are kidnapped/missing at such alarming rates - oddly enough, the ending was happy - and comfort in that The Monster loses a battle, possibly on the road to hell, loses the war against innocence.

Don't let the goofy title or the generic poster fool you. This is actually a pretty effective horror thriller with Cage bringing his A game. He's done a lot of bad movies over the past few years but this one goes into a category that is much more watchable than some of those other titles. Its a very low budget and you can see the lack of money with some of the effects, though there aren't that many of them so it isn't too big of a deal.

Nic Cage is a college professor whose son goes missing while he buys him an ice cream cone at a Halloween carnival. After the police investigation goes nowhere, he begins his own investigation into his son's disappearance which leads him into realizing that it wasn't a human who took his boy but something very old otherworldly that has been at this for a long time.

There are some jump scares but the movie does a good job of building up the tension throughout the movie. Like I already said, Cage does a great job as the lead but the story doesn't do much for the other main characters. Sarah Wayne Callies from The Walking Dead plays the wife of Cage's character and she is completely wasted her. Lyriq Bent, Rigg from the Saw films, plays the cop investigating the disappearance of Cage's son. He gets a few really good scenes in the movie and then abruptly disappears before the third act. Honestly both characters could have been cut from the movie and it wouldn't have made a huge difference.

The plot is similar to Insidious but its not a complaint. Watch it.

A Good Solid Old School Halloween Horror Flick

For those who need to be constantly bombarded by special effects and a jump out your seat fright every five seconds this is NOT the film for you. Pay the Ghost is a slow paced build up to a wallop of an ending. Nicolas Cage has his obligatory freak-out scene - but isn't that what we all wait for in his movies? He's great in anything he does as far as I'm concerned. He's surrounded by a good cast and some very moody, atmospheric directing that makes this not just horror but suspenseful. This a great movie for watching at home when you're feeling lazy and want to be scared, but not too scared.

Firstly I purchased the UK region 2 Arrow release & yet again it's an Arrow release with no English subtitles. However if you have an unlocked multiregional DVD player the USA region 1 import (which will not play on ordinary UK region 2 DVD players) comes with English SDH & Spanish subtitles.

I love many of Nicholas Cage's earlier movies, L Las Vegas, Moonstruck, Honeymoon in Vegas, The Rock, Face Off, Con Air etc but in recent years he's made some utter tripe. Compared to his more recent rubbish I was quite impressed with this little supernatural Halloween thriller. Granted it's not on par with his 80's & 90's stuff but it's probably the best he's done in a while. And if you save it for Halloween it's a nice one to watch after Hocus Pocus.

It's Halloween in New York City and father and son go mix in the crowd enjoying every minute of it. Getting hungry they go and get something to eat, while dad goes to pay and takes his eyes of his son for just that split second turns around and no little boy standing there, Now a year later still haunted over the disappearance of his son he joins his estranged wife plus shares the supernatural mystery that leads him into the darkness of the night with a detective who is working the case while Halloween is drawing close with a curse that can destroy him and all he loves. Now I rated this an A grade plus because of the story and actors playing their parts to a tee. Plenty more to this but why spoil it, fabulous right from word go, so now it's your turn to make a move for the munchies relax and put your feet up to watch a marvellous show that will have you sitting on the edge all the way through. Enjoy!

I enjoyed this movie, but will say without giving anything away, it is a tame ghost story. There are a couple of creepy bits, but nothing too terrible. If you like a good supernatural story, minus blood and guts, this may be for you. I like Nicholas Cage and he plays his part well. I bought the blu ray for just over £2, it was well worth it.
