The first half of the book laid the groundwork for an interesting conclusion. However the last half drags and the battle scenes are rather illogical and disjointed as the author seems to use the Phalanx as something akin to a Star Trek Holodeck -- in one battle scene they are fighting urban combat and the next is in a scenic outdoor environment.This lazy writing style, that assumes everything possible exists on the Phalanx, gets tiresome and confusing.

On the Plus side the initial descrptions of the Blind Eye pilgrims do a good job of showing the inner workings of a 40K pilgrim band. Pilgrim groups in 40K are often mentioned but rarely expounded upon and that was refreshing IMO. There was also some good sub plots focusing on brother Chapters that do not get much notice in most 40K works. I found the Doom Eagles sub-plot to be especially good.

Still had to include women in combat however. Warhammer is slipping when this book which would have been mediocre 5 years is now considered excellent. I held my breath for the inevitable inclusion of the empowered women thankfully it didn't come until well into the book. Obviously the editor and marketing forced fed this character into the book hoping it would be noticed on a subliminal level??. The story arc of others namely Lysander and the inquisitor suffered at the expense of a female character with no arc and a quick patchwork storyline . Shameful and not true art. shameful

I love respect the Soul Drinkers above all other Astartes chapters and Ben Counter's grasp of what it means to serve the Emporer above the constraints of the corrupt Imperium is nothing short of a mesmerizing adventure into the fringe somewhere between honor and madness. This book is my favorite of all the Soul Drinkers many trials and tribulations. It grants a heroic end to the most controversial of the Astarte chapters. This is a must own for any who wish to know the true purpose of the Astarte.

Ein Abschluss der Souldrinkers-Saga. Inwiefern es ein gelungener Abschuss ist, da bin ich mir nicht ganz sicher, da er doch noch ein keines bisschen Raum für Spekulationen am Ende lässt. An Bord der Phalanx, der Heimat der Imperial Fists, wird die verbliebene kleine Schar der Souldrinkers zur Rechenschaft gezogen. Mehrere andere Orden der Space Marines senden Delegationen, um dem Verfahren beizuwohnen. Darunter auch Vertreter der Orden, mit denen die Souldrinkers in den vorhergehenden Bänden aneinander geraten waren.
Die Charactere sind gut gezeichnet, wenn ich persönlich auch von der Farblosigkeit der Imperial Fists etwas enttäuscht war. Sie sind hier keineswegs als die Erben Rogal Dorns beschrieben, sondern kamen mir nur als ein Chapter unter vielen vor.
Die Handlung ist jedoch spannend und nimmt die Fäden aus den vorheringen Bänden auf und bringt sie zum Abschluss. Natürlich kommt auch Action nicht zu kurz. Insgeamt ein würdiges Ende der Souldrinkers-Reihe, in dem sie auch mit ihrem ärgsten Feind und Verursacher ihres Unglücks abrechnen. Eher nicht geeignet als Lesestoff, wenn man zuvor die anderen Souldrinkers-Bände nicht gelesen hat.

Cette série a été passionnante pour moi mais j'avoue être un peu déçu par le dernier tome.
Il fournit un certain nombre de réponses (avec aussi de nouvelles questions) et a du mal à démarrer.

Sinon c'est un livre tout à fait correct et qui termine ce cycle.
