Pirates: A Book That Says It All

What can I say about the only children's book I've read in what seems like ages? I did love it, truly I did. The only problem was that it was so short and it took me under an hour, once I had bought it, to read the whole thing.
I did however love the sword fight scene between Jack Sparrow and Will Turner. The wit involved was stupendous and I hope to see a film filled with that on July 9th. Also, poor Jack has problems whereever he goes with women and that, in itself, was hilarious. There is a huge plot twist however that even I did not expect and I can usually see them coming. However, I won't tell you what it is. You will just have to read the book and watch the film.
It surprised me that they only came out with this junior novelization because I know plenty of fans of both Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp who would jump (might even do backflips) to get their hands on an adult novel based on this most popular summer blockbuster!
All in all, the book was good and it enlightened me on the entire movie. Afterwards, I was able to author my own fanfiction about the movie, something that would have been impossible until I saw the film.

Can't get enough of Captain Jack Sparrow

A quick fun pirate adventure. I would say it is a good book for a hesitant young reader because it has a simple writing style and who doesn’t like pirates? Zany Captain Jack Sparrow is one of my all-time favorite characters. This book is funny yet it is funnier on screen as Johnny Depp’s portrayal of Jack Sparrow is beyond BRILLIANT! His facial expressions alone are priceless and his quirky mannerisms are hilarious and that does not come across in this book. The chemistry between Elizabeth and Will does not translate well in the book either. They are kind of blah. Barbossa needed to be more outrageous too. There was not a whole lot of description given concerning their outfits or there look in general. Some of my favorite lines are: “You are without a doubt the worst pirate I have ever heard of,” Norrington taunted. “Ah, but you have heard of me,” Jack said smiling. I love how proud Jack is of being a pirate, regardless of his reputation.

想像より本は薄く、文字は大き目で、内容も平易な英語で書かれています。映画の脚本のような物を望んでいるとちょっとがっかりするかも。映画の中で流れに関係ない幾つかのシーンや台詞が削られているようです。「力で奪え！」「情けは無用！」のような所などです。元の脚本には無かった物なのかもしれませんが。印象的な台詞回しが映画の魅力の一つだったのでそこは残念でした。
文章はシンプルでわかりやすいため、英語で文章の味を楽しむような読書のできる英語の出来る人には物足りなさを感じるかもしれません。ですが、やはり英語で物語や台詞を追えるせいか、日本語版小説よりも映画により近い感覚で読み進むことができます。
また、文章だけでなく、本文中にカラーで8ページの映画の写真がついています。目新しい写真はもちろん無いですけど嬉しいです。
映画のファンで、あまり英語は得意でないが、これから英語を勉強したい人には良いと思います。
ちなみに中学英語すら自信の無い私にはぴったりでした。

この本は高校生の私が初めて読みきった洋書です！洋書読破には今まで何度も挫折しましたが、この本は本当におもしろく、楽しんで読めました。
以下にこの本のよかったポイントを書きます。
・子供向けなので、文字が大きめ。難しい構造の文もないです。
・27章の構成でしたが、１章5～6ページがほとんどなので、毎日１章！などと目標にしやすいです。
・映画をもとに書かれたものなので、映画を見れば場面が安易に想像できるので、助けになます！（私は以前映画を見たことがあったので、エキサイティングな映画を思い出しながら楽しく読めました。）
・これは人の好みにもよるでしょうが、早く次を読みたい！と思えるストーリーです。
オススメです！！

薄くて、字も大きくて、そして紙はわら半紙っぽいです。めくりにくいです。
私の英語力は普通に高校を卒業した程度ですが、「あ、これなら読破できそう◎」という印象を受けます。
しかしさすがに辞書片手でないと無理なので、今度時間があるときにじっくり読みたいな～と思っています。

100ページくらいなので、簡単だと思っていたのですが、意外に読みにくかったです。
映画を見ていなかったので、話が繋がらず、困ることも多く、あまり乗れませんでした。
映画の場面の転換のように急に切り替わるので、初めから小説用に書かれた作品の方が読みやすいと思います。英語力がないからかもしれませんが。。
