Staying out of Harm's way

This book was my go-to book to read when I was ready to go to bed and read until I was ready to go to sleep or my husband told me to turn off my book (my Kindle.) I usually ended up reading for at least two hours until I found a place I felt I could safely leave the characters out of harm's way until the next night. And then there were nights that I had to get up and read more because I could not leave anyone stuck in harm's way. Ethan asks questions about the blue lights in the sky, the ruins in the valley, and of the roamers and the maddened. There's a great cast of characters to keep this story going. And it's not just against the roamers and the maddened that Ethan and his companions have to fight. I am so glad I bought all three books together as the story flowed very well without any interruption.

Well written and a good story, but too woke.
Antagonist is horrible terrible man, and protagonists are wise, kind, brilliant, women.
Leaders are all women except for the antagonist. Women are the best fighters, even better than men, and order around all the emasculated beta males.

Either the author just admired strong women or he has bought into the woke movement; where all men take their wive’s last names and drink soy lattes.

Strong women are great, but they cannot physically beat up men. That only happens in movies. If you believe otherwise you are suffering from delusions of adequacy, and it ruins a good book.

This series was okay, and would have been better if it were a bit shorter. I'm not much into monsters (or in this case radioactively deformed), but he pulls it off here fairly well, there are just times in the series where it drags, especially in the last volume (how many of these things do they have to kill, on and on and on). Overall written well, good grammar, and very few spelling errors. I liked his Star Scavenger series involving the Orion and Goliath spacecrafts much better (I gave 5 stars for that one).

I had downloaded the first book of the trilogy quite a while back and just got around to reading it recently. The characters were interesting and engaging and the author kept my interest with their engaging stories. I generally like character-based books, which if why despite some typos and a couple of confusing subplots, the series was enjoyable. I could have done with a few less fights and sorties, but the stories did hang together well. I hope to check out other writings by this author.

Too much navel-gazing, too boring and too depressing.

I read to escape reality and to enjoy a bit of fun where you can cheer along the goodies as they win through. In this series, the first book at least, as I didn't get to the second and third ones, too many things were going wrong one after another. I was struggling, trying to keep going and realised that I was more reading to get through it than because I was enjoying it... so I gave up and DNF'ed it.

Much of the writing was quite good but there was too little that was uplifting and happy for me to take it further. If you prefer to be miserable, you may well think differently to me.

I found that tissues were needed for the last chapter so be prepared.

The story caught my breath several times as I raced ahead to see what would happen then having to reread in case I missed something. The characters were caricatures of “types” but, unusually, this enhanced the the plots rather than diminishing them. Interesting use of planet, moon and space station not necessarily being our planet and yet it didn’t detract from the reading at all. Perhaps I’m strange but this trilogy had a beginning, several middles and an end*...my kind of book!

I was pleased that I purchased all three books together. A slowish start that developed into a very good story. I enjoyed all aspects of these books, from the initial lies to the ending which, in a way, was founded on the lie Maria wove in the beginning. There was brutal action, romance and plenty of intrigue. Sorting out the good guys from the bad was difficult at first but became easier as the story progressed. A trilogy well worth reading.
