The author has the approach of a survivor, someone who intimately understands what I have been trying so hard to understand myself and could never describe to someone else. She speaks from the same emotional places of hurt and recovery I need, and I can almost feel her nodding her head along with my own wounds and comforting me. At the same time as she speaks subjectively, she includes the relevant research from therapists and specialists in the field, providing links and references to support everything she speaks about. Ultimately combining her approach-ability and comfort with hard facts.
Ultimately this book helped guide me to where I can confidently say...
"Abuse shaped the victim I was. I shape the survivor I am."
Personally, I had so many "AH-HA" moments reading this book, but I had an epiphany while reading Chapter 4 "20 Diversion Tactics of a Narcissistic". Diversion #1, "he does that"; Diversion #2 "that too", Diversion #3 "wow, that too", Diversion #4 "woah, weird, that too".....on to 5, 6,7,8, 9, 10,11,12,13 ,14, 15, 16, 17,18,19, AND 20! YES...ALL. OF. THE. ABOVE.!! I had to pick my jaw up off the floor. I highlighted the edges of that entire chapter and reference it often. Being in a narcissistic relationship of any kind, Spouse, ex, friend..Etc. is a never-ending cycle of abuse and you can't find the way out. But you can. Remember Sarah's final words in The Labyrinth "You have no power over me".

You know the feeling when you know something is wrong but you cannot quite put your finger on it and start blaming yourself for lack of an alternative?
This will put it all in perspective and call out a hidden epidemic of abuse..
Modern life is saturated with this kind of malaise and yet on the outside it seems as if nothing is wrong...Well this book brings well needed clarity and yes rage to the situation. Pure passionate rage much needed and long overdue against an injustice so widespread and malignant that anger is the only thing which will bring it out into full view out from its dark hiding places and into the air where we can breath again and heal old chronic wounds and gather courage to voice our oppression and give solace to others who are trapped in suffering. The author is the bravest most inspiring person i have come across and she is very much needed..read it and wake up and reclaim your lost power..
