A Wonderful Surprise

The Prankster is a high school coming of age story with a protagonist surrounded by characters who have Character. And, each character has their own voice. Refreshing! The Prankster reminds me of American Graffiti and Sixteen Candles in that the cast are all proficient young actors, some of whom may go on to stardom. The legs to The Prankster may be in their future success as actors when everyone will point back to their first movie. Regardless of 'legs', I don't understand why this movie was not on Disney or Nickelodeon. Perhaps the reason is that the production was a true independent. And the production values are better than some of the funky fun movies I watch on late night Syfy. Which leads more true independent movies. The Prankster differs from American Graffiti and Sixteen Candles in that the teen angst is not dark but wrapped in serious yet comedic humor. It's light-hearted fun with an actual message - a message that could have come from Zorba the Greek. If you are interested in watching a nice coming of age story, then I recommend The Prankster...Then watch the careers of these young actors.

Funny movie with a good story line. Way better than some of the stuff that is out there targeted at this age group.

great teen movie
This is a great movie about teens that is cool enough for other teens to enjoy and that their parents won't be embarrassed to take them to- which makes it fairly unique. Save yourself $50 at the multiplex and bring it home with a bowl of popcorn.
