Preach to Yourself: When Your Inner Critic Comes Calling, Talk Back with Truth Audible Audiobook – Unabridged
Break the cycle of doubting yourself, take God at his word, and talk back with truth - a new message of freedom from the best-selling coauthor of Wild and Free.
We know Christ came to speak life, but then how come our inner critic keeps showing up and stealing the mic? If we’re honest, she’s a harsh one, saying things we’d never dream of saying to others: You’ll never measure up, you’ll fail again tomorrow, you just can’t get it right.
It has been said that the 18 inches from head to heart is the soul’s longest journey. Our head knows the good news is true, but our heart struggles to believe it, and it is in this gap that we battle to believe the promises of God.
Hayley Morgan, coauthor of the best-selling book Wild and Free, has wrestled with this tension her whole life. In Preach to Yourself, she tackles it head-on to discover how we can renew our minds to renew our lives. For every woman who struggles with repetitive, negative self-talk, this audiobook will show you how to identify the toxic loops where you get stuck and replace them with the truth of God we can believe with our whole selves.
This is not a “try harder” reprimand, it’s a “believe better” invitation: to take God at his word when he tells you who you are. Come along and learn a simple practice to break free from the lies holding you back, and step forward into the fullness of life God has planned.

This is for the woman who struggles against the lies that fill her head every day. This book is for the believer that feels like their spiritual growth has come to a halt. This is for the anxious, the broken and the insecure.
If you are wondering how to renew your mind as Scripture commands, pick this book up. It really is interesting how many times in church we are told to renew our minds, but rarely are we told how. Hayley has laid out the process for you in this book.
I love Hayley's honesty and vulnerability. This book is not a difficult one to read or understand, yet it is still packed with truth. I love it when authors always bring the focus back to Jesus. I wish I could give this book to every woman I know because while anxiety may not be your struggle, I am sure there is a lie you are believing that is holding you back from living the life of peace God longs to give you. Hayley gives us ammunition to fight those lies and win.
Definitely, don’t miss this one.

With a mix of personal stories, Scripture, and scientific research, Hayley reminds us to preach the Gospel to ourselves daily, to tell ourselves Good News. This book has paired nicely with other books and research I've been studying about the tangible nature of our thoughts. Our neural pathways constrict when we are tuned in to the stresses around us and open up to make more connections when we are tuned in to Emmanuel, God with us, our ever-present help in time of trouble. Hayley's book makes the topic of neuroplasticity accessible to us and shows how relevant the research is to our life of faith.
For me, the most memorable image from the book is the metaphor of God gently restoring us in the same way that curators restore ancient sculptures in Italy using only a soft paintbrush. For those who grew up under harsh authority figures, it's a real comfort to know there's no chiseling condemnation in this transformation process. Reading this book has helped me avoid joining in with those old condemning voices and instead become more committed to the practice of believing and receiving God's love in my daily life and allowing Him to renew my mind.
I've shared quotes and ideas from Preach to Yourself in dozens of conversations since my first reading last fall. I highly recommend this book for any person who struggles to find peace, joy, and energy in daily life. The culprit just might be your self-talk.
