Emma, aka ELF (due to her initials) has sworn off men this Christmas. She is heading to her friend's cabin in a small town in the middle of nowhere, to spend Christmas. She is avoiding her family, due to her recent break up, doesn't want to hear their comments or deal with awkward matchmaking attempts. When her friend called to tell her she couldn't make it, and she would be roughing it on her own, ELF decided to try to make the best of things. She quickly had to learn to build a fire, start a generator, and have no working shower with hot water. But at least it was pretty, and she could catch up on some reading.
Rudi is the town's cop and veterinarian and has been single for quite a while, after his last relationship went south. He is in the process of writing a parking ticket, when the owner of the car returns and is one of the most beautiful women he has seen. He changes his mind, and lets her go instead. I cant say much more without giving things away, as there are a lot of little secrets revealed in this book. ELF and Rudi cross paths a couple times, but is that due to small down living, or something more??
Of course, events continue to go wrong for Elf, and when we meet up with her, she is running out of gas near the small, quaint town of Polerton on her way to the cabin. She also learns that Carla can’t make it to the cabin after all. Can Elf face a bleak, dark cabin in the woods all alone?
Yes, it turns out that she can thanks to the magical characters that she meets that not only help her, but provide us with the most delightful Christmas love story I have read in a long time! Nick and Mrs. C run the general store in Polerton and they give Elf a warm welcome and plenty of food. But Elf’s best friend turns out to be the cat, Sue, who turns up at the cabin and helps Elf turn on the generator, gather logs, and start a blazing fire in the fireplace. Sue the enchanting cat even encourages Elf to cut down a fir tree for Christmas and helps Elf get it in the cabin and finds the decorations!
But, despite her pride in her pioneer accomplishments, Elf can’t decide “if living alone in a cabin is fun or torturous.” Until she meets the last marvelous character, Rudi the town vet and part-time cop. When Nick C. (Santa?) gets in a pickle, can Rudi and Elf guide him?
Yes again, in the same way that Author Allyson Abbot steers us to a satisfying and heart-warming conclusion that will jingle all your Christmas bells. The author writes in a clear voice, with fresh characters, and adds just enough surprises, and romance. Sweet, amusing, whimsical, charming- this book is a Christmas gift!
This is such a wonderful Christmas romance! Two jaded people come together under odd circumstances in the craziest little Christmas town you have ever seen! And don't forget the furry little mastermind!
This story is written well, making you feel like you are right there! There is of course some romance, but some hilarious parts too! This is a perfect book for this time of year to curl up on the sofa with a cozy blanket and cup of coffee and enjoy all the holiday has to offer!
I really enjoyed this one.As a lover of Christmas and cats this one was right up my alley. I enjoyed the humor a lot. I found myself chuckling quite often while reading this one. I loved the mischievous cat. This was a fast sweet holiday read. It's one to sit back, relax and enjoy the holiday season with. I gobbled this story right up. This book did hook me with the cover.

By Allyson R. Abbott
You can’t go wrong with reading a book by Allyson R. Abbott and A Prickly Christmas Kiss is no different. This is a nice and easy quick read and I didn’t put it down until I had finished the whole book, should only take a couple of hours of solid reading. What do you get when your nickname is Elf, you meet a man called Rudi and a couple called Mr and Mrs C and two broken hearts? A nice Christmas miracle maybe? Emma whose nickname was Elf was meant o be going away for Christmas with her best friend Carla, but as it happened on the way there Carla phoned Elf and told her that her car wasn’t going to make it, so she was sorry but she would have to pull out of their two week planned break in an isolated cabin that Carla had been to many times in her life. Elf not to impressed decided she would keep going and just spend the night there and come home. Elf’s two wishes for Christmas were being away from men and escaping another Christmas with her family. So, arriving at North Poleston is where she meets Mr and Mrs C in the general store where she bought supplies before heading to the cabin. Leaving the shop, she sees a police officer writing her a ticket explaining she was looking for gas the officer could see the most beautiful woman he had seen in his life. When Elf turned back to give the officer her license he had disappeared. Arriving at the cabin she meets a cat who even though he is a male cat decides to call him Sue. Two days later the cat has hurt his paw so off to the vet Elf takes Sue only to find out that he was the police officer from a couple of days ago. When he introduces himself as Rudi, she can’t do nothing but laugh. He questions the laugh and she say she has met Mr and Mrs C who reminds her of Mr and Mrs Claus, her nickname of Elf, the Vet/Police Officers name is Rudi and now he tells her that the cats name is Santa’s Little Helper. She also finds out that Rudi is Carla’s cousin and that Carla has spent a lot of time in the cabin which belongs to Mr and Mrs C. What Rudi and Elf don’t know is that Carla has set them up as she knows they will be perfect for each other. Will Carla be right in her thoughts? Or will Rudi and Elf be to heart broken from other relationships to see past their hurt?
A Prickly Christmas Kiss is another wonderful story from the incomparable Allyson R. Abbott. How I love everything she writes. She has such a wonderfully descriptive, easy, well-rounded and inviting style to her writing. Her stories always draw me in and have me hanging on every word. Her books are so easy to read and always leave me with a feeling of satisfaction and warm-heartedness- and this story was no different. If I had to read Ms. Abbott's books every day for the rest of my life, I would not be disappointed! She has proven to be such a versatile author, writing from so many different perspectives and age groups- from romance to comprehensive guides on publishing, writing reviews, or negotiating the world of social media. Her insights and imagination know no bounds.
This charming story full of the wonder and spirit of Christmas definitely sprinkled a little magic into my day. This is one of my all-time favourite reads from Ms. Abbott, it was such a delightful story, quite refreshing and light-hearted, but full of heart and soul.
I loved Elf and Rudi, I wouldn’t mind reading more books with these two and their slightly quirky bunch of friends. SLH (Sue) was a wonderful addition to the story, adding an extra element of wonder, charm, humour, and interest to this superb tale.
This may be a story set around Christmas and the holidays, but it is a lovely story that deserves to be read, and can be enjoyed at any time of the year!
Thank you yet again, Ms. Abbott!!
