If this didnt work as advertised, I would have had to return my Epson 1060 projector.
I had purchased a Epson 1060 projector to go with my Bose SoundTouch speakers to setup a home theater system.
But to my surprise I found that the projector did not have any audio out ports which meant that I was stuck with the sound coming out of the projector.
At first I was very unsure of using one of these and planned to return the projector.
But the picture quality on the projector was really super so I tried out this audio extractor.
Once I plugged in the input (chromecast) through this switcher, I was amazed at how easily I could connect the audio to my Bose speakers and the video to my Projector.
There is no noticeable degradation in either audio or video quality.
PS : The sound still comes out from the projector in parallel to the audio out so you have to mute the audio of the projector in case u dont want any audio from the projector.
Shortly after my original 1-star review (see below), the company reached out and promptly sent out a replacement unit. It's been a few weeks and I'm happy to report that the new unit has performed flawlessly. No issue with the sound and the Optical port door hasn't fallen off. Much kudos to their customer service team for promptly addressing an issue. This is how you turn an unhappy customer into a loyal fan. Cheers!
I originally started drafting this as a 5 star review, unfortunately the product quality failed to live up to the initial positive impression. Shortly after using this device, the TV will not recognize the video signal - all you get is black screen and audio only (this happened with all the TVs in the house). A few days later, the TV wasn't getting the audio signal - I had to unplug then plug back in the Optical cable to restore sound. The second time this happened, the door on the optical port came off and I can no longer plug my optical cable back in - see attached picture. Had this device held up, it is a perfect solution for my Tivo, Apple TV and Amazon Fire TV to feed into a single HDMI port to give you that clean look.
And it has done the job very well.
The first one I received only operated about 30 minutes and then failed.
Reordered another and it works beautifully.
A little bit of inconvenience having to return the other one to Amazon but really no big deal.
I've now used it for several days like it very much and it works great. I really like the audio extraction because it is independent of the television volume control. I use it in conjunction with an small audio amplifier and regular headset. It would be nice if they put a little tab on the unit so that you had a place to screw it down to keep it from flopping around or moving. Used hot glue to attach a small wooden block as a whole down spot on the backside of the unit and It works just fine.

The entire body was made of plastic (though it's metal since most of them are); though, the build quality seemed ok. It's got a little blue-dot/LED for each input/output port. The button at the right cycles through all 3 inputs regardless whether or not the select input has anything connected to it; you will see a black/blank screen if it's not connected to anything or if it's in sleep mode. Other HDMI switches I had (not PIP though) in the past would automatically bypass any ports that didn't any signals sent through it which is a lot more useful and convenient.
The remote worked fine but it's a bit picky and you really needed to point at the switch in order to work properly most of the time. In addition to select HDMI inputs which can be accomplished via the button on the switch, the remote allows you to enable/disable PIP as well as switching between 2-ch and 5.1ch audio systems.
As for PIP functions, the buttons are as follows;
PIP - enable/disable PIP (2 sub-channels)
SEL - cycle between 2 sub-channels to be selected (picture 5)
Enter - activate selected sub-channel
It's impossible to move the PIP around or resize them; they are static at top-left region although you can use the SEL button to switch their positions (bottom-left/top-right or top-left/bottom-right, picture 5). It would be nice to be able to move them around and/or resize the PIP video, individually or otherwise. I also noticed significant stuttering/choppiness of the 2 videos in PIP mode regardless of the sources (just to eliminate possible causes). This may not be an issue for you but I find it rather annoying at best.
There were also major issues with audio feedback regardless of whether the input port is active or not (video: 0:25s to 0:35s showed the feedback without anything being played), especially when the switch is connected to the same USB adapter as the output audio device (TV, speaker, audio systems etc). The feedback/noise was unbearable (and unacceptable) and I had to grab another USB adapter temporarily to test the rest of the functions (but you can still hear the noise throughout) because it was driving me crazy. Having said that, I don't know if the one I got is faulty or defective, or if it's just BAD DESIGN or lack shielding/filtering of some sort. In either case, this is a deal breaker and I'll have to return it and find something else if I can't get rid of the feedback for good.
Furthermore, the audio coming out of the HDMI was out-of-sync with the audio coming out of the 3.5mm jack (didn't test TOSLINK jack) by a [relatively] small amount; however, it's definitely 'noticeable' when I heard them side by side (video: 0:35s to 0:50s). Again, this may or may not be an issue for you depending upon how and what you intend to do with this switch.
I've included a short 50 sec video to show what it looked and how it sounded like so you can be the judge yourself;
* 0m0s to 0m25s - shows what PIP looks like and how it's positioned, selected, and activated
* 0m25s to 0m35s - shows the audio feedback (it's actually quite loud and I had to tune it down)
* 0m35s to 0m 50s - shows the audio out-of-sync issue
All things considered, it does what it's supposed to do with respect to 'switch' HDMI inputs. As a matter of fact, it did a great job as there was minimal delay (in comparison to others I have owned in the past) when inputs were switched. With respect to PIP, well, it does work; however, un-configurable PIP positions/size is a slight annoyance and the choppy PIP video bugs me more in comparison. Finally, the issue with audio feedback is a MAJOR issue with me and I'm not gonna spend $10-20 buying another USB adapter just for this. The audio out-of-sync issue is a minor one for me personally. It's really unfortunate because I really want this to work.

I also went with this one due to the manual switch. The automatic ones can have a lot of issues.
Plug and play, pretty simple. Not much too it. Connect your HDMI's and then away you go. It does need USB power, for me I have it plugged into my PS3. You could get a wall adapter if you want (such as a cell phone adapter). It is a universal power cord.
I knocked 1 star off because the HDMI cable it came with did not work. Other than that, I highly recommend.
I have the audio coming from the 3.5mm jack and it works great and my speakers sound great!
I had to plug the switch in to a usb for power as nothing I have connected gives enough juice to keep this turned on
Works great for picture and sound
I notice no quality drop in audio
Remote seems to only work if you are 7 feet or closer, I cannot switch sources while sitting on my couch but we rarely use the remote, still, good information to know as some people might depend on the remote more than the wife and I do.
This unit allowed me to plug my TV box and gaming systems into it and then into the TV and receiver so once again I can have stereo sound.
The remote works well, but I have to be fairly close to it to make it work. Most of the time it auto-selects so the remote isn't required. To explain, if I'm watching TV and then want to use the PS4, just by turning the PS4 on, the audio and video automatically switch to the input for the PS4. When I turn the PS4 off, it goes back to the TV box which is usually the only input still turned on.
The only drawback is the way that it's set up with the inputs and outputs. Because they're all on the sides, I can't keep the device up front where the remote will reach it more easily, it has to be tucked away in the back. I'm sure someone could find a work-around for that if they needed to, but I'm quite content with everything the way that it is.
This thing was a great little problem solver, especially for the price!
My favorite thing about this is the automatic switching the product does the minute I turn on my PS4 or switch. That is super convenient and was an unexpected feature that ended up working very well for me.
The remote is okay, and does it's job. It doesn't look very good, and the button layout is pretty weird. It also has issues controlling the unit if it's not in the line of sight, which is fairly normal for IR remotes.
I am very happy with this product.
Original Review- I’ll update this review later if I can resolve the issue I’m having. I’m not sure if perhaps I received a defective unit - the sound from input 1 comes through the audio output no matter what input I choose. I could not get the sound from input 2 or 3. After several minutes I’ve lost the picture and can’t get any video to pass through. Still have sound on input 1 passing through. I’ve read through the manual and can’t see the resolution for this - I’ll try again this evening when I have more time and if I can make it work, I’ll update my review.
No power plug to accompany the USB lead - but that was my problem not theirs.....I didn't read the package contents list properly. They obviously assume everyone has multiple power adaptors these days from those old redundant cellphones, which is true - but you can never find one when you need one!
Only other small issue is the remote won't change inputs cleanly. For reasons I don't understand pushing the button for line-in 3 (a laptop) doesn't switch directly; have to choose 4 then go to 3. An inconvenience but not the end of the world; all other line choices appear to work OK directly. Adding this following paragraph after 2/3 weeks of use.
That switch issue to input 3 getting irritating now as I use it often. Also noticing that occasionally, approx once a day, the unit just switches off mid program (regardless of the selected input channel) ... then have to go and switch it back on to the channel again.
Again not life ending, but an irritation with no apparent reason.... The convenience of having it outweighs the issues at present (just) but already starting to look at alternatives. Am guessing this is a construction/quality control issue and may be just a dodgy unit I have received.
The hassle of getting it replaced isn't worth it for me at the moment..... But if the manufacturer reads these reviews they might take an initiative here!!
I have an older TV and a very old amp. I just got a ChromeCast device which uses HDMI but i needed to have RCA input to my old amp. This box splits the audio to RCA.
I dropped one start as there is some attenuation on the audio channel which means I have to crank the amp higher but there is no noise (hiss or hum) so that's not too much of a problem. However, there is some loss of tone too; again corrected with adjustment. I have to remember to put the volume back down before using the other amp channels.
If you are wondering whether this item for you, you need to ask a few questions first - 1. Do I have too many HDMI cables for the ports I have available? 2. Do I have multiple audio channels that I'd like to streamline?
If the answer to either of those questions is yes, then this item is for you - Highly recommended!
