Blood calls to blood.
Gabriel Davenport and his brothers have found a temporary refuge. But safety is fleeting.
Beneath the streets of London three become five, as the brothers, the "Bloody Little Prophets," are joined by a witch boy sent on a mission and a terrified, persecuted vampire.
But every meeting has its consequences. And one of them is not who he says he is.
One by one, the brothers are torn apart, and all must face their own demons when unexpected questions and uncertainty arise.
Gabriel's quest takes him to the very edge of his morality—to a creature who holds the key to death itself.
What would he give to know why the wings of darkness had always sought him?
And what would any of them sacrifice to save each other?

I love all the characters...even the evil ones. All of them jumped out of the book and magically came to life captivating me. The characters, even the minor ones, were so multi layered that it made me giddy. The only option I had was to read and turn pages
This seemingly normal setting is hiding a seedier, dark and evil world just under the surface. Lee successfully brought these two worlds together much to my horror and delight. Her vivid descriptions brought both worlds to life as if it were completely normal.
The story is well paced and flows well and then all hell breaks loose. There are smooth transitions between both worlds and points of view but things are happening so fast. I could feel the tension, fears and self doubt of all the characters. Choices, family, acceptance, integrity and strength are focal for Gabriel in both worlds as the story unfolds. But can he hold unto them?
The symbolism portrayed throughout this trilogy continues on the cover with The Purity of Crimson. The wings are white, the title is crimson...blood calls to blood and there’s a black shadow on the back. Behind the title is an imprint of a tree... What’s not to love?
I’m still not a fan of vampires and horror; but I am a fan of Beverly Lee.
The creativity and sensitivity with which Lee developed her supernatural characters shows startling originality. These books will not read like anything you have encountered before. Be sure to read this book, but don't miss the two volumes that lead up to it. Each succeeding volume showcases the blossoming ability of the author. I can't wait to read whatever she writes next.
I do wish Olivia and Noah had more page time (mostly just because I love them so much) and I would've liked to have gotten to know Devlin and Elijah a tad more, but overall Purity, and the trilogy as a whole is just so consistently good and I can't wait to see what else Beverly Lee has up her sleeve!
I just finished this final book in the Gabriel Davenport series, and while I didn't QUITE as exciting as the first two, I did very much enjoy seeing real relationships and emotional development among the vampire characters. I feel that was certainly necessary to tie up the series. There were a few things I thought could have been fleshed out more, like Noah's leaving the church, the identity of Carver's mystery super-fan (maybe that was obvious to everyone else, but the references to Ollie threw me off, and in many ways that made perfect sense) I had honestly completely forgotten the other vampire until he showed up at the very end so that was a bit convoluted.
Still, overall, I really enjoyed this whole series as it's not JUST another vampire story, it really looks at the many connections in our lives and how those connections get us through difficult times and shape who we become, even if that is a supernatural being.

Sophisticated and clever, these books work well as a whole, gradually building the tension through all three novels to climax in this one, The Purity of Crimson. Her world-building is superb, and you really feel a part of the back streets and underground her vampires inhabit. All her characters are three dimensional and well rounded, with all too human flaws that make them seem so real you feel you really know them. The main character, Gabriel, in particular, is a complex and tortured soul who does bad things for the right reason and fights to retain his integrity in the face of seductive, dark temptation.
The writing is sublime, and there are some truly stunning passages that convey the heart of the story in a few, well-chosen words. Being the last book in the trilogy it had a lot of promise to fulfil, and it achieved this magnificently, with an ending that brought both resolve and satisfaction.
At the core of the novel is a same-sex love story, and this the author tackled with an achingly beautiful sensitivity that left my heart hoping for a happy ending for the young lovers... but no spoilers, you will have to read the book yourself to find out what happened.
This was a remarkable read, a sophisticated treatment of a subject that has possibly been done to death. Yet the vampires in Ms Lee's trilogy are neither sparkly nor perpetual teenagers constantly attending high school, instead, they are raw and real, with multi-layered and complex personalities that speak to the reader.
