Jamie McFarlane is a graduate of Colorado School of Mines with a Master of Science in Mathematics. An avid reader, tinkerer, woodworker and metal sculptor, Jamie is just as likely to be seen smelting aluminum cans in his garage as he is tacking random, discarded iron objects into a small army of beasties that adorn his home’s landscaping.

Jamie’s writing career began as something of a dare which later turned into a tribute. In his late teens, Jamie was well known as the family story-teller, spinning fanciful yarns about ordinary events, usually with the objective of escaping well-deserved trouble. One day, his mother, often the target of his mischievous tales, challenged him to commit his words to writing. Jamie promised he would but time passed, as did his beloved mother. In 2014, Jamie made good on his promise and published his first book.

Jamie is the author of a growing library of novels and novellas including the space opera series - Privateer Tales, and the urban fantasy series - Witchy World. Jamie lives in Lincoln, Nebraska with his wife and enjoys spending time with family and friends.

Four and a half stars. Jamie McFarlane has done it once again! He has crafted another hard to put down story. I took of half a star because the characters might seem a bit underdeveloped if one was to pick up this book without having read any of the others.

Setting that small point aside, the cast from Loose Nuts continues their adventures and find new allies in their struggles. The pacing is so tight that I struggled to put the book down. Fortunately, the jumping back and forth between Picis and the Loose Nut adventurers created natural breaks that let me eat and sleep.

This is the first of a new trilogy in the long running "Privateer Tales" series. Unlike so many trilogies these days this story actually has a beginning, middle and ending with a small teaser but no 'cliffhanger' to make one wait for the next book. Like a the craftsman he is becoming, McFarlane relies on the quality of the characters and his story to bring you back for more.

When I read that this would be a "bold" trilogy, I decided to wait until all three were available and I really had time for a three-book read. I really enjoy McFarlane's work and I've lost more than a few night's sleep because I could not put them down. Well, three books is a lot of time... and that takes some planning. So I waited until my vacation. Reading these books in a nice resort on a wonderful beach, where it does not matter what time I go to sleep, was perfect. This is an excellent beginning to a new trilogy that starts us down a path to deal with the Kroerak bugs and the natural tension that comes with: "How in the heavens will our small group of characters, about whom we really care, survive this?" Trust me, McFarlane has really done a fine job with this book, with its twists and turns, as well as the whole trilogy, but that's a different story entirely.

Pursuit of the Bold is another well crafted space opera by Jamie McFarlane. The action is continuous with plenty of problems for Liam, Tabby and crew to get through. I have already pre-ordered the next book in this collection. While this is the start of a new trilogy and can be read by someone who is new to the Privateer tales, it is better to start from the beginning and watch the characters develop over time. Jamie often runs a great bargain on the first five books.

It is the first of the Trilogy of the Bold, continues the Privateer Tales Series and answers some of the questions remaining after Book 12 - Corsair Menace. Liam and part of his crew set off in search of a long-shot defense against the Kroerak. They run into trouble right away and have to use their wits and their weapons to continue their mission. New crew, new aliens and new hope are just part of the adventures. Great book from a great author and worth a read.

I've enjoyed the whole series since reading the first book. Whilst the Kroerak story arc isn't my favourite, they do provide a good villain. The opposition that loose nuts face have got progressively larger so when Jamie finishes with them I'm wondering if their next adversary will need to be a god :-D. Time will tell but as long as the stories continue to be entertaining, I'll carry on reading.
