Blog postI was a little underwhelmed by my Google search for tongue twisters so I made some up and I figured I'd save them here. These are for 2 or 3 kids to act out together. If they really enjoy it, you can make them start over each time they mess up until they perform the whole thing perfectly! (As Studio C does in their sketch comedy)

My Top Ten Bookish Pet Peeves, in no particular order
1. Cliffhanger endings
2. Made up character names I can't pronounce. I don't care what country/planet Magergaherm is from. Name him Hal.
3. Not using contractions in dialogue
4. Bad movie adaptations - Yes, Percy Jackson and the Olympians - I'm talking about you!

Blog postI could tell this was a special book to the author. There was a lot of detailed world building and Christian faith woven into a story that spanned several years. If you're looking for the romance you expect from a Rachel Rossano novel (such as Duty - LOVED that book) than this is probably not the book for you, though it's hinted that it will come in the next one. But as an inspirational fantasy with characters of integrity and grit, this works.

Blog postRachael Anderson is one of my favorite authors, and while I haven't loved everything she's written, she consistently puts out great books. My Sister's Intended did not disappoint. Prudence, who totally does not match her name, is suspicious of her sister's intended fiancee after she sees him making eyes at another woman and overhearing them planning to meet. She goes to intercept what she thinks is a tryst (while also gathering research for her romance novel). Of course, she's totally wrong abou4 years ago Read more

Blog postI've always loved top ten lists, so why not make one? Here are my top ten favorite reads from this year, in alphabetical order, since I can't pick among faves.
10. All's Fair in Love, War, and High School by Janette Rallison
I love all Janette Rallison's YA books (with the exception of Son of War, Daughter of Chaos, but that's a whole other post). They are funny, easy to relate to, and with flawed, but lovable characters with hilarious insight into life. T5 years ago Read more -

Blog postFate's Arrangement is about a noblewoman who more than anything else, wants to continue her work as a midwife, performing c-sections in a time where everyone else thinks she's barbaric. This book is not for the squeamish as there are several childbirth scenes and sword fights and such. Tastefully done, but realistic. The adventure and romance in it are both excellent. I really enjoyed this and haven't read anything else quite like it before.

Blog postI had the privilege of being a beta reader for all three of the Krillonian Chronicles and this one was a great wrap up to the series. Bensin and Steene have traded places. One a free man now owned by a spoiled teenager, and one a former slave now free. But being free isn't all Bensin thought it would be. He's out of work and feels like a burden to those that helped him. The characters are well rounded, with flaws and temptations that make their circumstances even harder. Blog postA book with magic and dragons is a little out of my usual reading genre, but the heroine in this is so feisty and fun that I was drawn in. After an investment gone wrong, Lucia is determined to make back the money and pay off her business partner/best friend, Sebastian. Even if it means dealing with monsters, pirates, and exploding plants. Sebastian is swoon-worthy throughout, so I was a little annoyed to find the book ending on a cliff-hanger. I will probably read books 2 and 3 through KU, but5 years ago Read more

Blog postI'm turning into a gushing fan of Kasie West. This one started a little slow. Lily hates Chemistry, so when her drawing/creative writing notebook gets banned from class, she writes in pencil on her desk and is amazed when someone leaves a response. It's not too hard to take a guess as to who her mystery man might be, and yet that doesn't take away from the fun of the book at all. Kasie West still manages to throw in some surprises and made me laugh out loud until the end. A definite recommend.5 years ago Read more

Blog postWhat a fun regency romance between two unlikely people. Sarah was a bit too naive and flaky for my taste, but she turned out to be a well-rounded character and I enjoyed her story. This makes me want to read the first book in the series - although it works perfectly as a standalone too. The first book is called A Heart Made of Indigo.

Blog postYep, I read all five. This is a series that takes the best of Jane Austenish regency novels and the best part of contemporary romance novels and puts them together, with time travel! Thanks to a portal in the cellar, lots of romance ensues with difficult choices about which time period they should live in and whether or not they can give up everything else for true love. The romance is swoonish, but definitely clean and I really can't decide which book I loved best. I recommend them all. The fi5 years ago Read more

Blog postThis writer has a quirky, refreshing, hilarious writing style and I was immediately drawn in. Lee is a person who is comfortable in her skin, she just can't tell anyone about it, thinking they won't understand her. And then she meets a guy she wishes she didn't lie to. Oh, and she has a guardian angel. Definite recommend. 2.99 for Kindle.5 years ago Read more

A pivotal year awaits Bless, a young woman who hides her passion: her music. She's not exactly friends with T'meal, a talented athlete who won't explain why he's passed up the chance of a lifetime. Nor is Bless too close to Lamall, a boisterous playboy with a broken private life that's spiraling out of control.
But Bless knows she's meant to help these two young men. She can't deny the Voice that told her so.

Blog postI love Jane Austen and I have a love/hate relationship with Austen off-shoots, but I have to say, I LOVE this version of Emma. I was lucky enough to be an early reader of this novel and Emma Wallace is the perfect character. You want to simultaneously hug her and strangle her. Blog postI'm so used to reading books driven by a romantic plot, or fantasy adventure, that it took me a little while to get used to this one. I would categorize it as YA Christian Family Drama. Dani has a flawed family she's trying to keep together, and big dreams. Her boyfriend Theo has his own issues, but he's seems to own them and share them in a way that Dani can't yet.

Blog postJulie Klassen is one of those authors where you just buy her book off of name recognition. I saw this for 1.99 and needed something to read, so I bought it. And it started out intriguing, and different than other regency novels. The protagonist, Hannah, is a lady's companion to an unfaithful, and silly woman, but left for unknown reasons. Blog postI thoroughly enjoyed this alternate version of Pride and Prejudice which added a little bit of the supernatural with a Christian twist. The usual characters are stranded by a freak storm shortly after a freak accident, leaving Mr. Collins and Mr. Darcy in a Freaky Friday swap. Blog postI had the opportunity to be a beta reader (early critiquer) on this novel and the last one. I normally read contemporary romance or regency novels, so this is not my normal genre. Having said that, I really loved the fight scenes and the drama involved with being unjustly accused of a crime and fighting for survival. I think I prefer it to book one, the Collar and the Cavvarach. Although they build on each other, you could read this as a stand-alone and be just fine.

Blog postTidal Patterns is about two workaholics with troubled pasts who vie for the same events job on the island they live on. I actually liked the work conflict better than the romance aspect. Mark and Lizzie spend a lot of time thinking about each other, with little going on between them other than a few very short conversations at first. This is clean, but aimed at adults. A reluctant bachelor and an accidental bidder—is it perfect recipe for romance or disaster?
Cara Marconi promised to bid at her town’s charity bachelor auction, but never with any intention of winning. So when she wins her best friend’s brother, she’s a little freaked out, and clearly he is too. The last time they spent any time together before he left town, she sort of launched herself at him. It was a kiss to remember, and one she'd give anything to forget.
Justin Riggs was expecting to take a nice old lady out to dinner a few times, not worry about hurting Cara when he leaves again. Of course, that’s not exactly how their conversation goes after the auction. He may have called her out on her crush on him… and added some other accusations that will live to haunt him forever. Now, Cara thinks he's a jerk, and he’s realizing too late that he’d like a lot more than her forgiveness.
Cara’s stuck. By winning a date package with Justin, she’s also won the marketing headache that goes with it. The town expects to see them out together having fun. Fine. Cara will play along, but by her own rules. She'll friendzone the heck out of him, hide her heart where he can’t reach it, and conquer this crush by the time he leaves after Christmas.
Curl up with this sweet and sassy Christmas tale about mistaken motives and secrets revealed.

Sometimes love is war.
Clay... My best friend has held a grudge against his half-sister, Lauren, forever. It’s unjustified and ridiculous, but I have to take his side. Also ridiculous? How bad I have it for her.
My Lauren radar goes off the second she steps in the building. Did I mention we work together and her dad’s the boss? Yeah, she’s so off-limits I might as well start running now and never come back.
Except, her family is like family to me. So, I’ll do whatever it takes to stick around, even if she hates my guts.
Lauren... I date guys nothing like Clay on purpose. I will not let my old crush on him get the best of me. It’s going on the list of things I’ve outgrown and will deny ever having, like the Justin Bieber poster I used to keep on the back of my door.
It doesn’t matter that I’ve caught Clay looking at me like he’s a jewel thief and I’m a precious gem encased in glass. He’d never choose me over my brother, or his job, or his enjoyment in teasing me.
Avoiding Clay is easy, until the day I realize my dad’s asked for Clay’s help in checking up on my dates.
No stinking way.

Friends come and go. I wish this one would go.
Sadie… I know Denver Talcott hates me as much as I hate him, but since we’re sharing custody of the same friend, I can’t get rid of him. Believe me, I’ve tried.
Worse, he’s now working at the same startup as me. My dream job cannot be his dream job, because my dream is to not see him on a daily basis.
Denver… You wouldn’t think a prickly introvert could also be a busybody, but it’s possible. I’ve met one. Sadie raises my blood pressure with her mere presence, and she can’t ever know that. She’d weaponize it. And then sell the recipe to other sadists.
Plus, I have another secret—this pesky attraction I feel towards her.
It’s got to be one of those inappropriate reactions to stress, like when you laugh while being reprimanded, or see your to-do list and decide to take a nap.
I’ll be fine. It’ll be fine. I just won't ever look at her.

She’s bad at reading signals. He’s sent all the wrong ones.
Jenny… Of course Noah would come back, and right when my life is a mess. I swear we had the best carpool friendship. Until he asked me out, then changed his mind, and then asked me out again, only to ghost me. I hate him so much. Almost as much as I love him and miss him—the old him before he became the worst ever.
I don’t know what to think, but I know what I’m going to do. I’m locking my heart in a vault where he can’t reach it. My crush on him may have been obvious and embarrassing, but now that he’s in carpool again, I’m making sure the only thing getting crushed around here are his hopes for a do-over.
Noah… I’m the worst. I chose my job and my assignment over the best person I’ll ever know. I have so many secrets I might as well be an international spy. Except there’s nothing glamorous about me. Especially my career. I’m working in phone support just to be in Jenny’s carpool again.
It’s not a great plan, but at least it’s taking me in the right direction—towards a future with Jenny. This time, I’m not going to screw everything up. Hopefully.

She knows a match when she sees one, but she’s clueless about her own heart.
Emma Woodhouse, devoted to her aging grandfather and her career, is happily single. But that’s never stopped her from making matches for others. Her best friend George thinks it’s a terrible hobby, but it’s not like knitting hats or hot yoga ever changed the course of history. When you’re good at something as important as matchmaking, it just has to be done.
George Knightley is sure about two things. One, Emma’s annoying new hobby is going to kill him, and two, he’s disgustingly, irrationally, in love with her anyway. Not that he can do anything about either of those things. Their solid friendship is one of the best things in life, and just because she keeps cuddling up next to him on the couch to watch their favorite show at night doesn’t mean anything’s changing.
Or is it? Because just when Emma’s life starts steamrolling down a hill of what-the-heck-just-happened, their friendship will be put to the ultimate test.
Sometimes love needs a little nudge. In their case, it might need a miracle.

How can you run from someone who already has your heart?
Romance at a family reunion is usually the start of a bad joke, but when the hunky neighbor everyone’s talking about turns out to be Anne’s ex, her plans for a relaxing cabin retreat fly out the window. Eight years ago, Anne broke off their engagement, afraid they were too young. It was a decision she’s regretted ever since. But Eric seems fine, and even suggests they stop avoiding each other and enjoy having mutual friends.
Eric Wentworth is not fine. He’s sort of accidentally dating one of Anne’s relatives. He’s introduced his lovelorn best friend to Anne and they’ve hit it off. Worst of all, they won’t be parting at the end of week like he thought. Anne lives in the city he’s moving to, and cutting her out of his life is impossible when she’s taken over his.
They swore they'd never give each other a second chance, but sometimes life has other plans...
Don't miss this modern take on Jane Austen’s Persuasion with all the characters you know and love.

She’s totally smitten. Too bad he thinks she’s someone else.
Alyssa Owens is used to getting talked into things by her lookalike cousin, but pretending to be her so she doesn’t have to break a date is ridiculous. Reluctantly, she agrees to the scheme—spend twenty minutes with the guy, wear sunglasses to maintain the ruse, make sure he believes she’s interested so her cousin can have him back when she returns to town after New Year’s, then make an excuse to leave.
At least, that was the plan. The plan stinks. He’s as hot as advertised, easy to talk to, funny, and sweet. It’s been way more than twenty minutes.
It doesn’t take Wes Fielding long to figure out that this isn’t the same girl he met at a speed dating event. After all, as a cop, he’s trained to study faces. But if this isn’t her, what is she up to?
He should be mad, but he can’t bring himself to call her out on it. Not yet. He’ll just investigate and see where this goes. But now he’s the one lying, finding excuses to hang out, meeting her family, and absolutely flirting with disaster.

He should be mad, but he can’t bring himself to call her out on it. Not yet. He’ll just investigate and see where this goes. But now he’s the one lying, finding excuses to hang out, meeting her family, and absolutely flirting with disaster.
Curl up with this sweet Christmas romance about mistaken identity and unexpected chemistry.

This Christmas, they're getting the gift of a little matchmaking mischief.
It’s been a tough year for Tara Harris. Her fiancé jilted her, the gossip about it refuses to go away, and she’s living with her aunt, the one who dabbles in matchmaking, aka finding random men to introduce to Tara. At least humiliation is never boring.
Luke Carrington planned to avoid the obvious setup. He even threw away the address the sweet lady at the store gave him. But fate must be playing with him because he’s here anyway, at the right place at the right time. Scratch that. Wrong place, wrong time. Tara Harris might be as beautiful, sweet, charming, and available as her aunt claims, but she’s also totally off limits to him, and he can’t ever tell her why. In fact, it’s better if he never sees her again.
But it’s a small town, and every time they run into each other, the sparks between them grow…
Curl up with this sweet and funny Christmas tale about coincidences, connection, and risking it all for love.

Elinor Dashwood has found the perfect job. There’s only one little catch... her boss.
Edward’s gorgeous, kind, and taken. Well, maybe. There’s something odd about his engagement to the town’s sweetheart, and it seems like he wants Elinor to figure it out.
Nope. Detective Elinor is not on the case. She’ll just admire him from afar like every other sensible person with an unrequited crush.
Edward Ferrars was just fine pretending to be engaged until Elinor moved to town, started working for him, and decided to invade his thoughts. Now his fake fiancée has set her sights on Elinor as enemy number one, and Elinor is the last person who deserves to be called a homewrecker.
He’s ready to call off this out-of-control favor, but if he unleashes the wrath of his fake fiancée, will Elinor be along for the ride?
Dive into this modern take on Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility with all the characters you know and love.

You can plan anything, except how you feel.
Rebecca Scott can’t wait to start her new job as an assistant wedding planner, until she comes face to face with her new boss, Jay Kendrick. Ten years ago she chose her fiancé over their friendship, and ended up losing them both. But Christmas is the perfect time for fresh starts and she’s determined to make things right with Jay, even if he’s nothing like the fun-loving guy he used to be.
Jay Kendrick’s unrequited crush on Rebecca is part of his past, and he’d like to keep it that way. With daily reminders of exactly why he fell for Rebecca in the first place, all he can do is stay perfectly professional. Stiff. Colder than the North Pole. She could come up with more descriptions, and she does, matching him toe to toe, and calling him out when his distance makes him downright rude.
She won’t let him be a Scrooge, but if he opens his heart a second time will it lead to disaster or the best gift of all?
Curl up with this sweet Christmas romance about mistakes from the past, and unexpected second chances.
