Kaiden is a member of the Miller family. Their dad, Jeff, runs the family and their farm with an iron fist and an acid tongue. Kaiden dealt with his father's tirades by being a clown. He tried to deflect the things Jeff did by being funny. He was the jokester growing up too. He is a carpenter and helps out on the family farm.

Julia is an attorney in San Francisco. She comes back home to try and help make her dad's house more accessible now that his MS has gotten worse.

Kaiden helps out on the project on Julia's dad's house. Kaiden has always had a crush on Julia. He was friends with her brother Miguel until they had a falling out. Thanks to her brother, Julia thinks that Kaiden has said some bad things about her. She lies Kaiden but is hurt that he'd said things about her.

As the project goes on, Kaiden and Julia get to know the real versions of each other and they develop feelings for each other. But Julia's life is in San Francisco and Kaiden's is in Morgan Valley.

I liked this story. I felt bad for Kaiden. He had a hard life growing up. His dad was a jerk with no redeeming qualities. It felt like the characters tried to make reasons why he was like that. That is just because they are good people.

Julia and Kaiden reminded me of the odd couple. She's a straight laced, at least on the outside, lawyer and he's a sexy, funny cowboy who never seems to take anything seriously. Both have crushed on each other since they were kids before there was a falling out between friends. Fast forward to adulthood when Julia comes home to help her ailing father. Kaiden is still a jokester and Julia is still serious, and yet they have this amazing chemistry. Ms Pearce takes on a wonderful journey with believable characters who often remind you of your own friends. This book is part of a series but can easily be read as a stand alone; however, I recommend meeting the entire cast of characters, each having their own great story.

Another story about the Millers of Morgan Valley -- this one is about Kaiden, a hot cowboy who gets through life by making jokes to avoid conflict & getting mad. Julia is a neighbor who left Morgan Valley to become a lawyer in San Diego and secretly had a crush on Kaiden when they were all in school. She returns home when her father becomes ill and needs help to have changes made to the house so he can get around. Kaiden is the one doing the work. They fight and argue almost constantly, about everything. He tries turning on the charm, Julia says it won't work. As you're reading you see changes in both characters; but, of course, they don't want to admit to any changes or feelings they might be hiding for one another. I recommend this book in the series.

These are realistic stories about real problems ranchers have and how they go about solving them. I have stayed up late every night binge reading this entire series and I love it!

He was determined to keep everyone happy and not let his father's constant anger rule his life. A love from high school keeps Kaiden in line and the rest of the story makes it hard to put your Kindle down. Enjoyable and fast paced with characters you'll know from previous Morgan Valley stories. Loved it!

I really enjoy these books, as they are so down to earth and they tell of communities that look after each other, care about each other. It is another western romance set in California, this time about Kaiden Miller. I think it makes it more poignant as it tells the reader about the struggles of a man with Multiple Sclerosis, and the ways in which his family deal, or do not deal, with this disease. It is a heartwarming story of how two people, Kaiden and Julia, join together to make her Dad's standard of living better, and the obstacles they face. A good read.
