Swimming brings back a nightmare that Rebecca Fishburn would much rather forget! When the gym teacher announces plans to take the class swimming for two weeks, Reb can think of nothing else...and she is terrified! She must do whatever it takes to stay out of the water. Reb is convinced that she must lie...or else she just might die.

Can you think of your biggest childhood fear? My greatest fear was deep water! As a preschooler, I watched kids jumping off the dock into the sparkling water of Lake James. They were laughing and having so much fun that I decided to jump in, too. The problem was...I didn't know the water was way over my head, and I did not know how to swim! That fear of nearly drowning gripped me throughout my childhood and teen years. I did not learn to swim until I had three children of my own, who were learning how to swim.

As an author of children's books, I gave my fear of water to Reb Fishburn...a fictional character in the 3rd grade. She has shared her secret fear with no one. And, after many ploys to keep from getting her feet wet, Reb must finally face her biggest fear.
