I did not want to follow Azarov. I wanted more Mitch.
This was a fine action story but it was NOT a Mitch Rapp novel.
Since Vince Flynn died and Kyle Mills has taken over the reins of the Rapp novels, they have progressively gotten further and further away from Mitch and have become just another group of action/adventure novels.
I'm done following the novels written by Kyle Mills.
I'm not only disappointed, I'm angry that the legacy of Vince Flynn has gotten so tarnished
troops invade his home in Costa Rica. The Russians are intercepted by Mitch Rapp and his troops. Grisha'a girl friend is severely wounded by the Russians. Rapp manages to get Grisha and his girlfriend to America so she can recieve proper
care. She gets stabilzed and Grisha wants to seek revenge on President Krupin.President Krupin has developed brain cancer and wants to wage war to maintain power. It becomes the job of Rapp to stop him. Accompanied by Grisha and
scott Coleman Rapp seeks a method to stop the Russian President.President Krupin has built a crew to help him Nikita Pushkin and General Andrei Sokolov are a deadly pair. In the meantime Irene Kennedy has a conference with Prime
Minister Utkin. He is to become the President should Rapp and Grisha manage to get President Krupin. This ends up in a war between Russia and NATO and some of the surrounding countries. TThis turns out to be an exciting book.
Two main characters, Mitch Rapp and Grisha Azarov, are bold, and skilled warriors. Grisha lives with the love of his life, Cara, in Costa Rica, after leaving Russia and its leader. Mitch lives with his love, Claudia and small daughter, Anna, in Virginia. Recurring characters, Mitch and Grisha trust each other, and have history.
The Russian leader, Maxim Krupin, is a sociopathic “coward and manipulator”. He is also very sick with cancer. When he realizes the changes coming for his future, he plots the death of his many enemies, sends his immediate possible successor on a made-up trip, and brings back a war criminal to help him plan for the cover-up of his weakness. It’s all cray cray 😜 and chaotic, and highly entertaining!
In addition, I find too many grammatical errors and wrongly footed words. It would have been better if it was read by a more excellent editor before publishing.
It was a timely writing reflecting what is going on in the world and particularly in Russia and Europe but lacks sophistication. In that I miss Vince Flynn.
This book is fast paced and action packed. I loved it , as I do all of the books in this series. It seems to me that there should be a blockbuster movie series here. I haven’t seen American Assassin yet but reviews are not encouraging. The right actors could turn this into a series that is reminiscent of the James Bond series. Well done, Kyle! I look forward to the next in the series.

The story is pacey with strong characters and an interesting story line, which I am sure will appeal to Mitch Rapp fans and also to any readers who have yet to make his acquaintance.
As I said in a previous review, Vince Flynn is a hard act to follow, but I Kyle Mills certainly gets my support.
No hesitation in recommending this book and awarding five stars.
The action and plot have gone from gritty and believable to laughable and pure fantasy.
The character development is now non existant and the characters themselves are just predictable recycled tropes from every crap andy mcnab book.
The langauge and use of pros is no longer gripping but predictable and jars as if the book was written by a teenage action fan.
Very dissapointed, cannot recommend.
I nearly gave up on this at the half way point. Normally I would read a Rapp novel in a couple of days, almost non-stop. It took me two weeks to reach halfway - and this is a pretty thin book.
The first half is just a drag attempting to establish a motivation for the characters dragged out of previous novels with no good reason.
More than anything this seems to be Mills' attempt to write a Clancy novel but the realistic character development was lacking in detail and credibility. It reminded me of The Bear & the Dragon in many respects - except for the writing quality.
Overall a feeble plot - floundered around for the first half of the book.
Sorry Kyle - bring back Mark Beamon
Ultimately a good read and I will continue to follow this series
