But when Grandpa’s balloons begin to float away, James is heartbroken. No matter how hard he runs, James can’t catch them. One day, Grandpa lets go of the silver balloon—and he doesn’t even notice!

This book is AMAZING! It tackles the complex topic of an aging parent, or grandparent, in an age appropriate way. The idea of memories as balloons made it easy for my daughters to understand, and the decline of someone’s memories being illustrated as balloons slipping away was just perfect. My Mom has Alzheimer’s, and although this doesn’t specifically mention Alzheimer’s, it’s helped me explain the disease to my daughters. I could not love this book more - it’s a gem!
