I liked the well-developed characters in this second book of the series, and their interactions. The number of characters was somewhat overwhelming for me at times, however. I feel a lot of loose ends as far as characters go, but the plot is solid and satisfyingly involved. I was very impressed by the world the author has built. If the Lord of the Rings and Dune had a child, it would look something like this. This world has an added dimension, its magical system, which is more complex and internally consistent than anything Tolkien put forth. And the politics here are more complicated than Herbert imagined. I liked the unexpected ending; I assume there will be a sequel which I will read to see, even if nothing else, the conversation between two characters when they meet again.

I preordered Requiem Moon right after I finished Scarlet Odyssey because I loved the world-building, the attention to detail, and the unique cultural framework. Requiem Moon did not disappoint! In fact, I'm even more impressed with the author. All the aspects I enjoyed from the first book are there but the sequel adds philosophical and political layers that make this an even more ambitious and satisfying novel. I can't think of any reason a fan of science fantasy wouldn't like this book, unless they are trying to avoid complexity. The logic behind the system and use of magic within the universe is interesting and is necessary for understanding characters and plot. The question that the book ultimately tackles in its closing act is so interesting that I can talk about it for hours with pretty much anyone. I don't want describe why I think it's so interesting because that might spoil the journey the author takes you on. I'm recommending this book to anyone who likes fantasy or science fiction, or to anyone who likes to think about challenging ideas. Please Mr. Rwizi, keep writing; I've put your name alongside Ursula LeGuin and Octavia Butler in terms of a kind of writing that I recommend to people.

Incredible second book that builds perfectly upon the first!

It's been a while since I've acted like this over a book. I'm talking about taking the 5-10 minutes between meetings to sneak in a few pages, staying up late, cogitating over segments kind of behavior. I had re-read the first book in preparation for the second, and I was SO glad I did.

The two halves of this duology read as one seamless whole, with the hallmarks of epic fantasy - new characters introduced, old characters dropping away, swirls upon swirls of story interwoven with back story interwoven with character building and world building, the perfect blend between science fiction and fantasy, religion and futurism. The duology ended with a satisfying ending, but also left me wanting to know more - more about what happens next in this intricately woven world. I seriously hope that C.T. Rwizi writes more in this universe and continues to build out what is promising to be a saga of epic proportions.

Strong Second Book. Waiting for the Third.

The second book of the series is always the hard one. I was a bit concerned at the beginning of the book. Felt like the writer was losing his control over the story. One particular event made me cringe, like no, no way. Boy, was I wrong. There are layers upon layer upon layers to this story. A master is at work here. This is a superb second book. Dying for the third. Feels like they should actually be several more. I would have liked to see more character development around Ilapara and Tuk. They should have had their own missions in the city. Also, it would have been great to see the story from the bad guys point of view. Knowing that someone knows about and will counter the good guys' moves would have made tension here rise to almost unbearable, which is exactly what I like. The book would have been twice as big but sooo worth it.

I enjoyed this story very much but it is unfinished or perhaps I just "didn't get it".
Much was alluded to giving glimpses of a larger universe and the conclusion of the story didn't reveal several key sub plots..
Like who was the soul that Asa asked the un- conformists to bring back. This is not marketed as a series and there is not a HEA.
I feel some of the key characters are left on a precipice and that there is still a conclusion lurking in the mind of the author.

The second book in the Scarlet Odyssey series builds expertly on the first. Although limited to one city, the plot includes an impressive number of twists without feeling rushed or overwhelming. Some may find the number of characters overwhelming, but every character is well fleshed out and their motivations make sense (once they are revealed).

My main criticism is that, while the book can stand as a finale for the series, it also leaves some big plot threads dangling. If you want a satisfying conclusion, maybe wait for the third book.

On the plus side, this book switches gears from a discussion of political wrangling, to a heist, to a battle with the forces of darkness, and back again astonishingly quickly, while still remaining coherent and exciting. An incredible example of a clever story told well.

I really enjoyed both books, I won't leave a detailed review on the content, I will leave that to others. I rarely leave reviews unless it's a book that has captivated me. This series has done that nicely. I love how descriptive it is, I have a pretty good imagination, the Authors descriptions amplify it and make you feel as if you are actually in the story. I think this series would make a fantastic movie or TV series if someone is smart enough to buy the rights. I would definitely watch it! I hope to see more from this Author.

I was really looking forward to this sequel to Scarlet Odyssey. At first it was just as imaginative and original at the first book, with many of the characters continuing to grow. However, I found the ending deeply unsatisfactory - one thread of the plot had a subtly foreshadowed climax which didn't disappoint but there was another outcome for which nothing had prepared me and it just didn't feel right. I felt that everything I'd invested in the characters was thrown away.

Before I say anything about this book, I would like to start by saying how much I loved the Scarlet Odyssey book. It was so refreshing and intelligent, brilliant story and characters.
Unfortunately Requiem Moon just isn't in the same league, the first half is good, but then it starts to go downhill. Hate the ending, there are so many loose ends and unresolved storylines.
I was hoping for a story that would live up to the high standards set by the first book, but that hasn't happened, it feels rushed and disjointed.
There were some good additions to the central cast and I had hopes for them, but again the author just doesn't go far enough with them, leaving them feeling like two dimensional characters not fully fleshed out.
I was under the impression that this was a two book series, but the ending makes me think there is another book to come. If that is the case then, the second half of this book is filler material, but without sufficient character development.
Damn, I'm disappointed and I don't want to be, as I loved the first book. It could have been awesome, but it isn't.

This is one of the best stories I've read in a long time. I loved the African take on magic and fantasy, it was so different to anything I've come across. There are a lot of characters and complicated names but the list of characters at the beginning helps and it's definitely worth persevering with the complexity of this story. The author has created an amazing world and a thrilling story that I wanted to explore more. There is a lot of violence and sections are very horrible so this book won't be for everyone, but I absolutely loved it.
