Salo must journey into the heart of darkness to find his way back home in the next epic book of C. T. Rwizi’s debut series.
Salo’s queen has finally accepted his desire to be a mystic despite taboos concerning men’s use of magic. But her acceptance is not support; it is strategy.
Under a disguise of the queen’s making, Salo enters Jungle City as a pilgrim to the Red Temple, only to find a magical barrier barring his entrance. Left at the mercy of the warring political factions that run the city, Salo faces a series of obstacles wrought by an unseen hand, knowing he cannot return home without completing his pilgrimage.
But Isa, King of the Saire clan, has her own plans for Salo. She needs his help to extract the Covenant Diamond from the Red Temple’s inner sanctum—an artifact with the power to end her tribe’s divisions, prevent a genocide, and even save herself from her fate. His new task in hand, Salo navigates a cursed maze of invisible authority—and when he encounters shocking revelations about the power residing in the depths of the undercity, he must wield his magic to finally bring the truth about his world’s history to light.

Review
“Wakanda meets Warhammer 40,000…Readers will enjoy the setting and the magic system…” —Publishers Weekly
“Raised in Swaziland and Zimbabwe but now residing in South Africa, C. T. Rwizi is a remarkable new talent. He deftly juggles five very different protagonists; establishes a vast yet intricate new magical system unlike anything else I’ve ever seen; and unfolds stories scattered across the distant past, the chaotic present, and in entirely different planes of existence.” —Tor.com
“A promising new series by a promising new author.” —Fantasy Literature

The two halves of this duology read as one seamless whole, with the hallmarks of epic fantasy - new characters introduced, old characters dropping away, swirls upon swirls of story interwoven with back story interwoven with character building and world building, the perfect blend between science fiction and fantasy, religion and futurism. The duology ended with a satisfying ending, but also left me wanting to know more - more about what happens next in this intricately woven world. I seriously hope that C.T. Rwizi writes more in this universe and continues to build out what is promising to be a saga of epic proportions.
Much was alluded to giving glimpses of a larger universe and the conclusion of the story didn't reveal several key sub plots..
Like who was the soul that Asa asked the un- conformists to bring back. This is not marketed as a series and there is not a HEA.
I feel some of the key characters are left on a precipice and that there is still a conclusion lurking in the mind of the author.
My main criticism is that, while the book can stand as a finale for the series, it also leaves some big plot threads dangling. If you want a satisfying conclusion, maybe wait for the third book.
On the plus side, this book switches gears from a discussion of political wrangling, to a heist, to a battle with the forces of darkness, and back again astonishingly quickly, while still remaining coherent and exciting. An incredible example of a clever story told well.

Unfortunately Requiem Moon just isn't in the same league, the first half is good, but then it starts to go downhill. Hate the ending, there are so many loose ends and unresolved storylines.
I was hoping for a story that would live up to the high standards set by the first book, but that hasn't happened, it feels rushed and disjointed.
There were some good additions to the central cast and I had hopes for them, but again the author just doesn't go far enough with them, leaving them feeling like two dimensional characters not fully fleshed out.
I was under the impression that this was a two book series, but the ending makes me think there is another book to come. If that is the case then, the second half of this book is filler material, but without sufficient character development.
Damn, I'm disappointed and I don't want to be, as I loved the first book. It could have been awesome, but it isn't.

His journey of adventure and political intrigue is engrossing, especially his battle not to be corrupted by power even though he gains it exponentially quickly. Ultimately his lack of life experience, hence developing wisdom is his biggest challenge. I recommend this 2 book series.
