The other half of the equation is the military aspect. There are some missteps in the stories that are clearly part of the general malaise of fiction writing that feed and are fed by the delusions that are destroying society at large. More than balancing these out however are the quality stories and non-fiction pieces in the book. The American military tradition has been to generate brilliant advances in weaponry and have writers that produce assessments of tactics and strategy that have impacted the world, only to be ignored, suppressed, or simply only given lip service by the command ranks. Want to see some of what is being ignored today? This is a good place to start.
I am very much looking forward to the next installment.
Of all the stories I liked the last the best. As a computer science major, I have always found AI fascinating and somewhat naively approached in much of science fiction as well as scientific publications. For example, where will motivation come from in a self aware system? What form will motivation take?
Again, this was excellent reading, and provides and outstanding list for further research and reading pleasure.
I could continue to sing its praises, but less is, in this case, more. I will note that the Creator of the "There Will Be War" series not only signed off on this to the extent of providing a story, he also followed that up by arranging to reissue the original series.
The short stories are written by some well know Sci-Fi authors, and some authors that this reviewer has not read. All the stories were fast paced and worth the time it took to read them.
Overall, I enjoyed this book and found it though provoking, I would recommend it to any one that enjoys this genre of fiction.
This is, likely to be YOUR introduction to 4th generation war. And a societal change which SOME will say is a descent into anarchy. And it is REAL, happening on planet 3 Sol system NOW.
If you would have peace, prepare for war. READ THIS.
This is the kind of book that modern Science Fiction needs.
The chapter on thermodynamics is fantastic if somewhat depressing to sci-fi fans. But, more importantly breaks it down in an brief and easy to understand manner.
Dr. Jerry Pournelle's "His Truth Goes Matching On" is a great story for anybody with interest in the Spanish Civil War.

Other stories involve staring into the crystal ball....more social science than hard science
Do you have an inquisitive mind, cynic/searcher of the truth/etc.
Have an IQ beyond shoe lacing capability... (?! always wonder about adults & Velcro !?)
Well then this compendium of current and past pieces could tickle your fancy
