Second helping of Lupica's Sunny
Reviewed in the United States on May 24, 2020
The second Lupica Sunny Randall is just as good as the first. Other than Ace Atkins, no one has captured RBP voice better than Lupica.
The flow and style is nearly perfect and the character seems to have not skipped a beat under the new author (Very much the same way Atkins has carried on Spenser flawlessly).
If I had a minor complaint, it would be that I saw the bad guy coming the minute the character was mentioned. No doubt. Mike has truly captured the voice of the Master, but maybe needs to put a little more into the detective in this fiction. it's one thing for Spenser or Hawk to harass the bad guys into trapping themselves or admitting to the crime, but I always felt Sunny was a little more cerebral. I'm not saying she's not one tough cookie, because she is! But she always seemed a step ahead, here she is floundering in the dark a lot.
Other than that, I love this book and author. Sunny is back and is fantastic! The people in her life seem just as real now as when RBP created them.
I am very glad to read that Lupica is being given a shot at a Jesse Stone book! Since RBP passing Jesse to me has not been the same. If Lupica can do for Jesse what he has miraculously done for Sunny I will be forever grateful!
