But one of Chinran's men was a sociopath going in. Now he's a trained sociopath with the knowledge and firepower to take out entire tactical teams, evaporate security cordons and change identity at will. Who do you send after a killer like that? There's only one answer: the man who trained him. The man who made him.

MW's characterization remains strong, and doesn't rely on his previous book to add depth to the characters in this one. Indeed, I enjoyed the characters enough to overlook the ending, which had some incredibly predictable elements. Many of you will be able to predict the ending within a few chapters. The ride to get there is wonderful, though. :)
I'll detail my biggest annoyance with the book below. It's a spoiler, so stop here if you havent' read the book yet!
*SPOILER ALERT* My single biggest gripe with this novel is the last few pages, and the artifically concocted confrontation between the hunter and hunted, whosoever each might be. Given Ken's monumental obsession with security and anonymity, the fact that a common criminal (not who you'd think, by the way), could (a) so easily find his daughter, and (b) have his thugs (men withouth Ken's level of training) manage to kidnap said daughter without running afoul of Neumann . . . well, it's utterly laughable.
like a great story.
A good read.
