This books has a lot of the global politics and some amazing interactions with the Galactics. Like Laugh Out Loud amazing dialog. So so good!
James has steadily risen in rank and I was afraid that we would lose some of his antics that he does as an individual. Not so! It is actually even better in some cases as he has more tools to use to try and get out of the situations he manages to find himself in.
Can't wait for the next book. It is going to be wild!
The thing is, after reading so many, similar stories, you start hoping for something a little different.
Thus the reason for a three star review.
Everything about the book was very good, especially the action, battles, and humor.
I guess what's missing, is a little more character development and interaction.
Give us more, say three to five pages, of character development, every time a new main character enters.
And an equal amount of individual character interaction. Add in some unknowns, keep us guessing, a few twists,
and an ending no one expected. Something to keep us with a smile, a laugh, and a longing for more.
So... adventure and action, aliens, women and alien women, wit and sarcasm, violent death and revivals... Mixed together to make another great undying mercenaries book.
The ability to describe the story in a comprehensive and fluid way is uncanny. The plot thickens and twists to a point where the only way out is no way out. Yet McGill always manages to turn the table around, just like Worf's (Star Trek) motto: There is always a solution to every problem.
After so many books there are still new jokes abound and often fellow passengers caught me laughing thinking I was crazy.
Top international reviews
James McGill, as usual, gets promoted, is promiscuous, makes dodgy decisions, kills aliens & people, is often at the cusp of being "permed" or getting his whole species made extinct & dies and is resurrected.
Great stuff !
Another brilliant book, twists and turns, so much going on, brilliant story and writing. Highly recommend this book and series. Can't wait for the next one
