Rosemary and Thyme, Season 1, Episode 2. A favorite British series from the 1990s..

I loved this series when it was shown on our local PBS station on mystery night in California. The information on gardening plus the beautiful English gardens are a lovely backdrop to the characters of two strong woman. In this episode, Rosemary and Nora (Mrs. Thyme) are planting a garden on the estate of a renown musician and composer. The musician bought the estate because his young wife loved it. A man with a backhoe is digging a hole for garden pool and discovers the bones of a horse buried under the vast lawn. A middle of the night visit by strangers in a car to the estate with shovels causes the musician, up working late, to go outside and investigate. The musician is shot. by whoever was trying to dig up more lawn. Rosemary, who is a light sleeper, heard the shot and sales up to investigate. She discovers the musician dead on the lawn. The women are drawn into investigating the murder because they liked the late musician, they like his young widow, and they hate the smarmy detective who is assigned the case.

Before her marriage, Nora was a policewoman. Rosemary is just extremely curious with a strong sense of justice. A very different kind of crime fighting duo.

Banal
Trivial plots. Uninspired and sometimes silly acting. Had to give it up out of sheer boredom before I finished season 1. Nice gardens and pretty flowers, though.

Something so right!
These ladies get it right every time. This is dramedy at its very best. Of course the situations are ridiculous but the Mss Kendal and Farris know exactly what they are doing. I was shocked when the series was cancelled. Perfect chemistry, terrific locations, wonderful cast, guests, oh just everything is right! I rewatch the series a couple times a year. I miss the women so much.

Gorgeous to watch
I grew up in England and moved to the US in my early twenties. I remember seeing these two ladies on telly when I was a child. Seeing them both in this series, plus the absolutely beautiful British Gardens that I remember idyllicly from my youth, make this series a dream-come-true for me. If you like Sherlock Holmes mysteries, these are very similar stories, but told from the current-day perspective of two very intelligent women, both coping after the losses of the loves of their lives (a husband and a career), which makes the show even more endearing and relatable, as they could be any one of us viewers. Lovely show, I am hooked.

Great Series - Highly Recommended
Love this series. Wish it would have continued. I've watched this one four times. Felicity is great and Pam Harris has always been my favorite actress. Seems like such a sweet lady.
