Title says it all. I hate hate hate cliffhanger blackmail. Make a book complete in and of it's self, and I will pay for the next books in a series, IF each is complete. Future books can flesh out the world, the complete overarching world view, but NO cliffhangers!

Well written dystopian tales. The world Piperbook has created is very real, his characters are fully comprehensive people. The disaster that ended the world as we know it, while apparently atomic, is so far back in their history that it is mythic. Set in a dark age, life is short and hard, and the only monsters are human mutants eventually explained as a scientific discovery gone wrong. So what's new there? A follow up to the Survivor series, it continues Walter's quest, with his companions from the ancient city, through the ruins of their world, taking you along as a willing participant. This series lives.

I loved the Last Survivors Series and just read the first one of this series and loved it.

I had grown fond of a number of characters from the other series and really enjoying the direction of the new series.

Just got to the end of the book, and left on a cliff hanger so of course have just download the second one in this series.

I am a fan of dystopian genre and enjoying these series.

I started with the first book and followed all the way to the end. I have a great imagination and I feel like I live the story right along with the characters. The good things and the bad. This series is one of the best I have ever read. T.W.Piperbrook has an imagination beyond compare and everything is explained in such detail that you can see it in your mind. Sometimes books explain things that aren't interesting enough to hold my interest and I find myself skipping or sections to get to the good stuff. Not with Piperbrook, it's all good stuff!

The Ruins is a hit! I loved the story of what might/could happen in a near extinction level event. Some characters are smart and band together, others, not so much! Great characters and world with plenty of room to build up both. Best thing to do, read the previous books then this one. You won't be disappointed with all of the action and adventure along the way. I'm waiting for the next installment already!

In some sense this is more of the same as The Last Survivors, just a different group with a different maniac for a leader. However, I found it to be a really fun and fast paced read. PiperBrook has done a great job of giving the reader a sense that there is something not quite right about this new community, without revealing anything. I am looking forward to finding out more on The Ruins 2.

I like it. I wanted to love it. The trouble is, unlike the 6 part trilogy we all read before, the story is a linear tale based on just three characters. So although the storyline is consistent with the main series, the story telling is more sluggish, plodding and much less exciting. There is palpable lack of tension to this tale.The promised "book 2" should have been combined with this and the writing edited to produce an exciting complete book and not just a few chapters of a story.
That said, the setting is as good as I hoped, the baddies are full of potential. Secrets are to be discovered. Horrors to be endured. By the end of book 1, the readers reward is that they have hopefully made it through the set up for the more satisfactory tale to come.
The cliff-hanger (or bridge-hanger) at the end will be, I suspect, a predictable let down. I'd name who it is except, the reader needs every bit of tension possible to help mitigate the plodding to this point, and this part might provide mild anxiety to someone trying to finish the "book" at 4:30 in the morning.
Due to the arrogance of self-editing authors, most people would have spotted the error at 13% in to the tale, where Flora says "my friend and I were the only ones in the ship" and then from there onwards, doesn't know the word "ship" until it is explained to her at 14% -
"Ship" Bray clarified.
"I've never heard that word before" Flora said, confused.
You're confused Flora? What about us readers?
I think I liked the setting more than I liked the actual story.
I will be ordering Book 2. It had better live up to expectations. Or I will invest no more.
Note to self - don't start a series until all the books are written. Much less frustrating......

What can I say? I finished your series of six books in a week and loved the characters, the story and the twists and turns along the way. A great ending and a really good read from cover to cover. I was looking forward to some continuing rollercoaster action as Bray, William and Kirby continued to explore the world, but sadly the roller coaster got derailed at the first bend. Considering the promise that the series held, I felt the continuation was like walking through treacle. There were several things which didn't make sense in the plot and also I was constantly drawn back to the question of why the settlers on the Island and those at Hastings, never seem to have interacted with each other before and considering how close they all were in "real terms", it left me with unanswered questions. I am 50/50 as to whether I try book 2, but will try something else you have written just to see if it was a bit of "writers block" on this one.

I picked up this fist book in the trilogy to see where the story would go next. Made it about 3/4 of the way through and walked away. Feels like it's just going through the motions and not really adding anything to the lore, a story for the sake of a story.
