1.0 out of 5 stars When you see the name Annandale, run for your lives!
By Jay Easley on October 25, 2018
The other intelligent and literate reviewers did a pretty good job excoriating the book so i won't make this long. Black Library has truly fallen into the habit of hiring some real hacks to write some of their most important books. As a couple of the other reviewers have already mentioned, this isn't even his worst HH novel. That...HONOUR...belongs to the Damnation of Pythos, the reading of which will surely leave you feeling as if you were actually damned somehow. This book isn't quite as bad in the same sense that inhaling only half a liter of hydrogen cyanide isn't as bad as inhaling an entire liter of it. Poor and confused handling of the plot (where detectable), characters we know and love in other books make the most bizarre and insane choices in this one, but the overarching issue is this: you paid probably $15 for this book with the hopes and expectations that it would move the HH further towards its massive conclusion. You WILL BE dissatisfied. The Ruinstorm actually seems to get caught up in its own, literal "prose Ruinstorm" and by the end (which you will be grateful for) you will discover you have not moved an inch towards the conclusion. My prediction: expect to see A LOT of these at discount bookstores. If you must read it, save your money and trade something (I heartily recommend any of his other works) for it.
