I started this book yesterday and finished it today because I couldn't put it down. That said, I've rated it four stars because while it reflects everything that Patterson fans love about his writing style, in a few spots I did find myself ahead of the details, and not really needing some of those lines in order to arrive where they were leading. About four chapters in I found the solid footing of the story, and only a couple of times after the midpoint I experienced a few too many details that I didn't feel like I would miss if I skipped. I heartily recommend this book whether you appreciate country music or not.

Why not just take her from the motel room when they found her?
Not your best work James.

I was expecting much more of this storyline to be suspenseful and thriller related. That might have been my own fault.🤷🏻♀️ However, I did end up really invested in the life and love of Ethan and AnnieLee. They were both flawed but very likeable and relatable character’s. She was much more guarded than him and very late in this book, we discover exactly why!💥
The retired songtress, RuthieAnne, who took Ethan and then AnnieLee under her wing, was a delight. She was vulnerable but hardened. Her past had scarred her to the point she retired. She still wrote and recorded her music in her own studio. It was for her though, not the world. AnnieLee was the breath of fresh air they all needed. AnnieLees' secrets were held tight though. They all just had to hope they wouldn’t matter in the long run.🙏🌹
I felt this book was probably steered more by the storyline of the great country music legend, Dolly Parton, than by the actual book writer, James Patterson. I do wish, however, that he’d put more of his skilled spins and twists into the storyline as well. I think it would’ve elevated the story to another level. I did love what felt like the ‘behind the scenes’ look that I felt we were treated to, and you could never accuse Dolly Parton of not telling good stories.😉 But that's also why we read James Patterson, where was his input?🤔
It was definitely enjoyable but it missed the mark a bit, for me.🥺
