Author Paisleigh Aumack beautifully inserted Joss Easton and Zane MacIntyre into the world of Stuck-Up Suit as if they’d always been there. Joss had interviewed Soraya on her radio show and they’d become best and loyal friends, while Graham had invested in Zane’s vision of renovating buildings and sites into skate parks. In the two years since he’d ghosted Joss, neither knew of the other’s friendships with this Cocky World power couple.
My question had always been, why? WHY? Why did Zane so cruelly ghost Joss in the way that he did? His intentions may have seemed honourable, but his execution was abysmal, cruel, and damaging. Upon reflection, he never realised just how deep those cuts of supposed kindness went, nor the scars that had been left behind. I wasn’t sure I could like the cocky and ruthless skate park renovator at all.
Paisleigh Aumack put voice to the emotions of the heart, and through her words I saw my version of the book play out in my head. Her description of Joss as a pro-skater turned edgy talk-show host who took no prisoners, and where no subject was off limits was perfect. Wow, I could see her attitude as she rode her hot pink cruiser board to work and flip it with her foot to grab and walk into the office with it. I could see her side-eye to the guy in the suit standing outside having a smoke and feel her visceral reaction to him, then my heart dropped as her world and new-found security within herself, was ripped out from under her.
Zane, or Mac as he’d been previously known to her was an absolute alpha book boyfriend and once he’d realised just how much he’d hurt her, he was prepared to put in the hard yards as he shoe-horned his way back into her life, hating that her radio chat included past lovers. Unfortunately though, this ended up with him being somewhat too in her face and a little too overbearing. Joss’s reaction his actions, as written by Ms Aumack was on point. Anything else, and Joss would’ve disappointed me. My favourite bit of advice that Grahame passed on to Zane; ” You’ll never love the idea of her having a life you weren’t a part of. But what you need to remember is you chose that option. Joss didn’t.”
Second Chances are among my top favourite tropes and Ms Aumack has put together an amazingly written second chance best friends to lovers’ romance that will be among my top favourites. It had everything in it that makes for a great read.
And let’s not forget the serious underlying subject that Ms Aumack has running through as a plot thread. It certainly tied everything together just so! 5 Stars 🛹
