Action movie looking for a plot
Verified purchase
SWAT was based upon the 1970s TV show about Los Angeles’ SWAT team. The plot is very thin because it’s mostly about showing off the SWAT team.

The story is supposed to revolve around French drug lord Alexander Montel (Olivier Martinez) being arrested and then trying to escape which the SWAT team under the leadership of Sergeant Hondo Harrelson (Samuel L. Jackson) has to stop. It takes so long time to get there however as a lot of time is spent forming the SWAT unit and training. That’s done because they want to show off all the hardware and the police prowess. It’s like a big commercial for the police. Ooh look at all the guns they have. Look at what they can do. It gets ridiculous.

Overall the movie is an action film searching for a plot. It’s like they forgot they’re supposed to actually have a compelling story and decided all the shiny guns and equipment would win over the audience.

It's an OK movie adaption to the original TV show
Verified purchase
I like that they added the theme music to the movie even if it was "sung" by the SWAT members. I see they also used a lot of the cast from the TV show in small bits. Overall the movie was fine. It had action and explosions like it should. The movie did basically show you its hand and what things were going to happen later but it wasn't a deal-breaker.

As long as you are not expecting Emmy-winning elements you will be satisfied with the movie. It doesn't leave you with the pumped-up feeling at the end like some of the "upbeat" action films do but it still is a fine way to spend your time. Perhaps grab your friends and see who can recognize the original team first. You won't get Samuel Jackson's usual f-bombs and they even dubbed one scene where he said a naughty word (not the f-bomb).

They added a female to the team who was supposedly better than other males because she beat up some gang banger who had her by 100 lbs and a few inches. Ehhh...I suppose if she was highly trained in fighting it could happen but as a rule...males will 99 out of 100 times beat females in fighting, strength and endurance.

No digital code!!!
Verified purchase
Okay I’m getting fed up with these movies that are supposed to have a digital code inserted inside and when I open it, I’m upset to find no digital code. It would be different if it wasn’t a Columbia Pictures movie but I know and have a Sony Rewards app that proves that this movie was supposed to have a digital code. And since Columbia Pictures is a part of Sony Pictures. Well that is just another way to prove it’s supposed to have a digital code. So can I exchange it for one with a digital code inside or get it for free especially since it wasn’t specified???

Any Sam Jackson movie is worth the price

I am a big Samuel Jackson fan, so this movie was a winner for me. The rest of the cast was also very good, including Jeremy Renner in one of his several proto-sociopath roles prior to him becoming an Avengers hero. Colin Ferrell was also very good, and I continue to marvel at why some critics claim he is not a first-class actor. Well, he is a first-class actor. I am not sure just how realistic this is in the way of SWAT training and SWAT situations in the field, but the plot was novel enough to keep my interest for two hours. Recommended.

Top tier actors are prevalent in this police action flick. This is a modernized version of the 1970's TV show, SWAT. Lots action and flashy scenes. Fun and enjoyable for fans of action flicks.

S.W.A.T is actually a really good action movie that has a great cast which includes, Colin Farrell,Samuel L. Jackson, Michelle Rodriguez, LL Cool J and even Jeremy Renner as a former S.W.A.T member who turns on his old team when a high level prisoner announces a $100M reward to anybody who rescues him. overall great movie.

Now I know why nobody ever mentioned this film.

Is Michelle Rodriguez a tough cop or a skinny AIDS victim? Is Colin Ferrell a maverick cop or a drug addict? They don't look like cops, they don't even look like they work out. Even LLCOOLJ looks anemic. "Momma says don't pick on me, please." And the way they handle guns on the train--can you say wanton endangerment?
