When a viral apocalypse kills 97% percent of the people on the planet, the survivors' humanity is hanging by a thread. Amid the leftovers of civilization, ex-Army Ranger Jason Larsen is reminded of the meaning of hope, family, and loyalty by a dog and a young boy who are as alone as he is. The survivors he seems to collect become family, and that is very bad news for those who think they run the apocalypse.
This is the first book in a new series from the author of the Eden Chronicle's "A Bright Shore," "Come and Take it," and "New Shores."
The author is a former CIA operations officer who has decided that his lifelong love of writing is more fun than "real" work.

Some Amazon Reviews: "I Was Warned: the review that made me download the sample said the reader had just finished it at 4am and was not intending to go to work having obviously read through the night until the book was finished. I made the same mistake and finished it at 3.30am. As all devout readers know; it is rare the author who can develop a new world - J K Rowling being a most notable example and S M Anderson has with this story joined that elite few.
"As far as the concept, I won' go into the technical aspects...I leave those to others who are much better versed in the realities of Quantum Mechanics and such. What I will say is that, not since reading "Tunnel in the Sky" by Robert A. Heinlein (a Science Fiction Grand Master) as a young man, have I seen this concept treated so well.
"Considering that most books in this genre use a 'far-right' slant as their 'evil government', it's actually refreshing to see a well thought out and VERY topical backdrop that turns the tables. Snowflakes should take fair warning that they may not like the backdrop very much, but honestly, it's not a major component of the book other than providing the main characters with motivation."
"Atlas shrugged meets a David drake military sci i thriller. Liked it and can't wait to read volume 2. Hilarious at times! Keep it up, Mr Anderson.

A Bright Shore: The Eden Chronicles-Book One
Feb 23, 2018
$2.99
A military Sci-Fi, technothriller set a short decade from now. Western Civilization has had its run. The West's own governments are giving up, have already lost, or are leading the charge to something else. This doesn't sit well with those who believe in liberty. This is the story of a people who have lost the political fight, lost the culture wars, haven't seen a level playing field in a generation, and are about to be made serfs. None of that matters. They're leaving...
Fresh starts are never easy. This is the first book in a story about a new world, different enemies, and old luggage.
AUTHOR's Warning: We've all read Sci-fi or speculative fiction where the dystopian backdrop is some form of fascism - usually portrayed as conservatism run amok. This is not that kind of book. The backdrop of this book is a socialist and corporate statist disaster on a global scale. It is basically fascism arising from the left. I had to give the protagonists a reason to do what they do. . . as such there are numerous disturbing scenes within, portraying everything from socialized medicine, five year economic plans and government enforced serfdom. If you think any of that sounds like a panacea for the future, you will not like this book.
A debut novel, the first in a series from a former CIA operations officer who has decided that his lifelong writing habit/hobby/obsession is more fun than "real" work.
