Next came Gabriella Balcom’s “Mission Ryan”, wonderfully different to the latter and entirely surprising; had me chucklingand and excited at what would come next. Loved the tone!
What did come next? I’m not going to run through all of the stories but I liked them all, especially Dale Parnell’s “Memory of a Past Life". An excellent page turner which I wanted more of! Despite immersing us in a truly horrific circumstance, the story gets us fuelled and believing in our strength and in the power of love.
David Bowmore’s “The Bunker” is a superb story that I simply could not lift my eyes from, both because of the excellent writing and of the amazing story, full of suspense, anticipation and my empathy for all the characters. The dialogue is terrific; you completely believe it. Every word says so much and so does every lack thereof.
The Irony of Prosperpine. WHA-AT? I love Galina Trefil’s writing but this is the best I’ve read from her. What an absolutely gut-wrenchingly intelligent, efficient, effective story with so much grit to it—philosophy, social commentary. Superbly written, lucid and relevant, believable, perfectly round from A to Z. Just… Read it.
To sum it up, I thought this book was awesome. And the satisfaction of being able to read it in almost one sitting…. I’m ready for some more Lockdown reading!
